Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Of course. The boss had said they were in retail. They are not. Whatever is going on behind the scenes is irrelevant. It is either in retail stores for me to buy, or it isn't.

How about you give the professional team amassed the benefit of doubt and have a smidge of faith that they are not trading their good standing in the industry to push some scam. Do you really feel this is all a scam? You come across that way, at least to me. Would you put money on that belief; and I mean this honestly (only you can answer that?  I already have, albeit refundable, if you can at least believe that.

I'll believe it when its on the shelf in a store I can visit and purchase from. Somebody claimed to have gotten one already. But. Bullshit on that.

I can’t speak for whoever said they had one but unless they are an employee of IE, that is BS of course since it is not released

That is a very fair viewpoint you have.  But since for you it is basically non existent and you now know it won’t be on a store shelf until minimum oct 10th 2020, what else can we do for you during your stay?

I just drop by the thread from time to time. I have no specific hate or love for the console. It simply is.

Here traditional vaporware credo holds true - when it hits the the market it becomes a real live product. It's a good, sound, reliable indicator a product is genuine.. In this case if it becomes available in October, hey that's great!

Is it possible something could go awry and the whole thing blow up? Sure. Could happen to any future product.

Scam is a tough word. I don't believe Amico and gang are scamming. And even a well intentioned and on-schedule product can be derailed. It happens. So. When it comes out it comes out.

Ohh dear. To me it is very simple, when a product hits the shelf it becomes a real product.

Not sure what else to say.

I do not disagree with your statement. The question it leads to is do you feel this current vaporware (none delivered at this point) is a dishonest scheme, or do you just think it is delicious to coyly drop a fact (like Amico is technically vaporware) and then basically troll the people interested?

Do you believe Amico is on a path to creation, or more likely is horribly mismanaged or dishonest to the point that it is likely to not be released? Not asking for guarantees, but true feelings at this point.

Neither. I don't believe Amico and gang are screwing around. And I stick by exactly what I said, "It's vaporware till it hits the shelf." It applies here. And it applies to many products from many industries. And if people perceive and believe it is trolling, their issue, their perspective, don't care about it. Trolling is small entertainment.

I'm sure they're working on something. I don't know their management details or history that much so I'm not qualified to comment.

Thank you for your input and clarification, I have money down, and am always looking for insight.

I think you are safe sticking by exactly what you said, as that is just basically the definition of vaporware. The fact that you don’t appear to have strong feelings beyond that help me stick with my decision.

So is anything by that definition 'vaporware' until released? Is the PS5 and XBOX Series X 'vaporware' as they haven't been released yet either? I think there is major scepticism for Amico from a very slim group of folks that that almost seems cultish. Despite Atari and Colleco being older companies failing to rejuvenate the brand as of recently you would really see this is as different and honest if you cared to pay attention. You don't have to like or buy it, but at least have respect for a project with this much backing and actual people vouching for it after playing. I really don't understand spending time and attention on something you don't like/appreciate/respect - must be out of straight boredom or closeted fandom. Also when you think about it shouldn't gamers actually encourage more variety for the competition and innovation?

I would consider them vaporware at this instant in time. Yes. Without reservation. If they come out on schedule then they won't be vaporware. Right? It really isn't a big deal. But. Internet & social media. You know?

Modern-day atari & coleco have little or no connection to their original past. An original past that made the names great. Today they are atari and coleco in name only. The efforts they put forth don't really resonate with anyone. Not anyone that I know.

As a kid of the 70's and 80's, I had both the Atari VCS and Intellivision. My number one console was the VCS. Mainly because it was first and had a lot of action games. Intellivision was number two, and we all played it when we wanted something different from pure action gaming. Things like Sea Battle and Utopia and similarly slow games were hits of a different kind.

Over the years I purchased the Atari Flashbacks and the R-Pi boards stuffed with emulators from ebay as presents and trinkets and fun things; I have that kind of interest in this console.

I follow this Amico gig from time to time see if its getting closer to being a live product. Nothing wrong in that is there?

When it comes to being cultish, there's really only two institutions that get me riled up.

Not at all, but I guess most people wondered why you said in your original post that it is strange that it was not available for purchase in retail (only pre-order). when it’s been stated since several years that it wouldn’t be launched until earliest 10/10/20.

In reference to something said long ago, if Sony doesn't immediately announce how many PS5's will be in the warehouse, ready to ship day one, then the whole thing is a lie and a scam. Not an estimated number, but an exact figure. If they don't know that right now and won't tell us, then they lied.

I don't think someone would seriously call the PS5 or the XBOX Series X 'varporware'. I feel @martianman2012 made the point when explaining that nobody doubts an announcement of an upcoming console by the big three. On the other hand, keeping in mind the circumstances about the Coleco Chameleon and the trouble Atari has bringing the VCS to life adds to the scepticism in regards of a new company bringing out a new console with a different approach using a brand associated with those two companies (at least to those who know that these were the big 3 back then). This would partly explain why some people are making fun of anything Amico related. Most of them never making the slightest effort to research the idea and concept behind Amico, though.

Its easy to get fatigued watching and waiting for new product to come to market.

Additionally someone said it was in retail. It is not in retail. Specifically. And so we wait.

So might as well - Aside from Farnsworth, Protecto, Software+, and a ComputerLand or two there was nothing within 40 or 50 miles that had Amiga stuff. And those were that far from me to begin with. Fact. If there were others they were insignificant hole-in-the-wall operations not worthy of attention.

For the record...  we will not be sold at Farnsworth, Protecto, Software+ or ComputerLand.

How about Babbages, Electronics Boutique, Rose Records, Camelot, Circuit City, Highland Superstores, Fretter, Silo, Zayre, Woolworth's, Montgomery Ward, Phar-Mor or Venture?

I believe the reason folks are challenging you is that the original poster was stating that the product IS available at retail.  And they are correct.  It is available at retail and he bought one at retail.  He never stated that he has one in his possession.  But he has BOUGHT one at retail.  Therefore making it "available at retail".

In fact... at this exact point in time... Amico is available at retail... and the PS5 and Xbox X are not.  :)

In fact... no one has even seen a real working hardware version of the PS5 and Xbox X... only renders.  We've shown the hardware working and games working on it.

Considering this knowledge, I'm curious to know if you would say that Xbox & PS5 are MORE vaporware than Amico?

I don't say that to be confrontational... just interested in getting your personal thoughts "specifically" as you mentioned.

If the answer is "yes they are"... then folks here would probably give you some credit.

If the answer is "no"... then folks here would probably assume that you may just be here to stir the pot, but I'd be curious to hear your thoughts as you seem to be very specific about wording and definitions (which is totally fine).

If the answer is... "they are the same"... then that may be construed as a cop out answer.   :)

Curious to know your thoughts.

Although no one truly believes that the PS5 & Xbox X are vaporware... I think that is the point folks are trying to make.

If you don't assume those products aren't vaporware... then why would you assume Amico is?

If the answer is... because we don't have billions of dollars in our bank account then you are equating the definition of vaporware to dollars and cents... which it is not.

Again... just curious.  Tell me more.

Let me know your thoughts.

Looks alright. Lets hope it all holds together and that there is hidden interest out there beyond forums and social media groups.

I also hope that nostalgia isn't a central "theme". Nostalgia can be narrow and short-lived. A flash in the pan so to speak. Once a fix is had not everyone comes back for more. Lately nostalgia is becoming overrated (to me).

Better than alright if ya ask me... but I may be a little biased.   :)

No.  Nostalgia isn't the main theme.  Our target audience for the most part doesn't even know what "Intellivision" is.  Aside from the 20% of the Retro Reimagined part of our launch library, the only part of "nostaligia" that we are accomplishing is creating new games that use "nostalgic" mentalities.

For example... playing together, simple games, simple controls, no violence, small teams, gameplay & fun over graphics, no microtransactions/loot boxes/in app ad's, etc.

Being someone who is clearly into retro.... does this sound good to you?

Sounds good to me!   :)

Amazing post count by the way.  When did you start posting on AA?  You must have been around from the start.  How has AA changed over the years?  Curious to get your thoughts.
