I called gamestop, they didn't have any.

You may have gotten one of those "I don't really give a crap" kids working there who just didn't wanna make an effort to check.  I hate when that happens.

Sometimes you need to call more than once to get someone who know what's going on.   Just keep calling, and it may take a while (maybe up to several months, depending on luck) but eventually, you'll get that one representative who'll say "Hell yes, we have them!  Come on up and get one."

Good luck!  😁

Or you can use this cool utility call google and go to gamestop website and see Amicos listing and realize its not out till 10/10/20

Because its just a hunch, but if this guy can manage getting on AA he can figure out how to navigate Google and gamestops site. But thats just a hunch 🤨

I'm sure they're working on something. I don't know their management details or history that much so I'm not qualified to comment.

but yet you continue to do so and that is the issue now isnt it.  If you did actually spend a few minutes researching who these people at IE/Amico are you would soon learn they are basically the same people who help create THIS WHOLE INDUSTRY.

I believe the reason folks are challenging you is that the original poster was stating that the product IS available at retail.  And they are correct.  It is available at retail and he bought one at retail.  He never stated that he has one in his possession.  But he has BOUGHT one at retail.  Therefore making it "available at retail".

In fact... at this exact point in time... Amico is available at retail... and the PS5 and Xbox X are not.  :)

In fact... no one has even seen a real working hardware version of the PS5 and Xbox X... only renders.  We've shown the hardware working and games working on it.

Considering this knowledge, I'm curious to know if you would say that Xbox & PS5 are MORE vaporware than Amico?

I don't say that to be confrontational... just interested in getting your personal thoughts "specifically" as you mentioned.

If the answer is "yes they are"... then folks here would probably give you some credit.

If the answer is "no"... then folks here would probably assume that you may just be here to stir the pot, but I'd be curious to hear your thoughts as you seem to be very specific about wording and definitions (which is totally fine).

If the answer is... "they are the same"... then that may be construed as a cop out answer.   :)

Curious to know your thoughts.

To me vaporware is very simple. A product that is talked about, announced, but still not available for me to take home and play with - that's how I see it. Right or wrong. It also applies to to PS and XBOX. So when they come out they come out. Till then it's just talk.

Although no one truly believes that the PS5 & Xbox X are vaporware... I think that is the point folks are trying to make.

If you don't assume those products aren't vaporware... then why would you assume Amico is?

If the answer is... because we don't have billions of dollars in our bank account then you are equating the definition of vaporware to dollars and cents... which it is not.

Again... just curious.  Tell me more.

Right. Bank size doesn't really determine if something is real or not.

Let's hope they can do it again. Or the modern day equivalent that fits today's times.

As they say in the investment world "past performance is no guarantee of future results." And I do get leery of the term "industry veteran". And that's just it. They're seasoned veterans hoping their view fits into today's market. Seems their vision often gets lost when an actual product goes through development.

"Industry veteran" reminds of D. Crane's remake of Pitfall, that jungle adventure thing which flopped on kickstarter. I also think of the three Intellivision remakes, Shark Shark was one of them I forget the other two. But marketing had the term in there as a major point. Then there was the chameleon dust-up. Just because one of the engineers on the project had done design work on the very successful Apple //e's reduced parts-count chipset, the MMU or IOU, it wasn't anywhere near enough to make a difference in the end.

Yeah that's true not everyone hits a home run everytime. Babe Ruth actually led the league in strike outs. The hope is people will remember your success and not your failures. Like I think George Lucas is going to be remembered for Star Wars not for Howard the duck. now is the Amico going to be the intellivision's team their Star Wars or their Howard the duck? who knows, I guess time will tell won't it? at the end of the day the destination won't matter if you don't enjoy the journey.

Better than alright if ya ask me... but I may be a little biased.   :)

No.  Nostalgia isn't the main theme.  Our target audience for the most part doesn't even know what "Intellivision" is.  Aside from the 20% of the Retro Reimagined part of our launch library, the only part of "nostaligia" that we are accomplishing is creating new games that use "nostalgic" mentalities.

For example... playing together, simple games, simple controls, no violence, small teams, gameplay & fun over graphics, no microtransactions/loot boxes/in app ad's, etc.

Being someone who is clearly into retro.... does this sound good to you?

Sounds good to me!   :)

It does.

Sounds ideal and that's what most all of us want. At least those of us here in this thread. It's how we gamed in the past. Except maybe for the violence part. Loads of videogames were about blowing stuff up. But not as bad as some of the stuff today.

It is depressing and tiring to see that microtransactions, DLC, loot boxes, constant updating, "fanboism" and advertisements have seemingly captured the gaming market. It seems if a game or console doesn't include those features it's immediately reduced to mediocrity.

Can the generation of smartphone twitch gamers slow down and embrace the qualities I highlighted above?

It's also weary that graphics cards in PCs and new generations of consoles need to be purchased. Sure it's progress. But it takes significant time away from simple and fun gaming. Enough that gaming can feel like task that needs completing rather than real old-fashioned fun.

Amazing post count by the way.  When did you start posting on AA?  You must have been around from the start.  How has AA changed over the years?  Curious to get your thoughts.

Signed up on AA in 2004. Been lurking before that.

How AA has changed over the years has got to be huge topic. Maybe someone should start a topic on it.

-Discussions of games has changed from strategy and tutorials to mods and patches.

-The hardware projects being worked tend to be longer lived spanning years. Think Harmony cart vs some of the early simple cart readers.

-Homebrews have become way more complex and creative. Many with instructions and professional boxes. I suppose that's not exactly evolution of AA itself, but rather a byproduct.

-Also have to say it's become a resource for more than just Atari stuff.

yeah, its wrong.  .... (16 comments from you and Ive already run out of patience, who in the world had to hear the 24000 other ones)  Listen the New Games+ is happening today, Lots of companies are showing trailers of their upcoming games, perhaps you can go on all their forums and yell " vaporware". It seems to be your thing

I find it funny you managed to make it to Atariage Q&A  and ask a question when a simple google search would explain when its release date will be. Also your concept that anything that you can preorder is vaporware.  When you can simply ask for a refund if it doesn't come out on set date. Vaporware is typically used in crowdfunding campaigns when they dont produce a product for its backers and the backer lose the their money.

Typical points the skeptics always leave out in their discussions.  Simple facts they lack because truth isnt their goal. Just chaos.

There is no correlation with Amico and any other crowdfunding scheme because you can get your money back.

No one calls preordering software like halo or last of us 2 as vaporware

No one says I cant preorder a switch because well its vaporware.

Refunds take the risk out of the equation.

Its only a nice thing to say when what you say doesnt add up.

Explain why you didnt look at the several sites in a simple google search to gain insight on its release date?

Or is there a different motive here?

I used to work for ComputerLand... They still owe me money!!!! Funny Story about ComputerLand Corporate. They held a contest to pick a new name.  The name that won was  VanStar!!!  What a name!!! To this day it sounds like a moving Company. I did drive a ComputerLand Van and had many an adventure in it. My coverageW was the San Francisco Bay Area. Luckily Inacom bought us out. A much more technical name. Then a few years later. The doors shuttered. Like Atari word.. I'm sure any semblance of the ComputerLand of old is in just name only. Fun times!!!

Now back to your regularly scheduled program of people complaining and praising ! Enjoy!

I plan on buying all my Amico clothes at Chess King.

You didn't say Caldor or the bon-ton are not going to sell it. So  I will be waiting in line at one of those two places for my backup consoles. Golden ticket in hand!

There we go. We agree on something. I knew this would happen one day. Lets enjoy getting excited for what we like, ignore the rest, and hope for the best.

Also one barrier I think we all have to get past if that time and time Tommy and team has pressed this system is only focusing on the retro games 20% of the time. This is not a $250 BurgerTime box. This means that the only piece of Intellivision that is prominent as a 'blast from the past' is playing games in the same room again. That has disappeared over the years and so that is the main mission. This is not really a reboot of a 40 year old machine. Its a new system from an older and reputable O.G. company brand we a mostly new crew. Veterans also aren't stale by default. Is they say things that indicate they are frozen in time and don't believe in change then yes maybe. Im not seeing that from these guys. They seem to be careful about the 'what works/worked' points in game console history.

You need to talk to the Auto Manufacturers!

I learned to drive in a parking lot of Zayre. In a 1980 white T-bird. In the snow. Good times.
