Folks don't obsess over something this much unless they know it has major potential.

A part from having a lot of potential, I think they also really like it and will buy it, they are just frustrated and almost offended that they are not the primary target group, and therefore they feel many design choices and games are “wrong” to make it what would have been much better to them. To “hate” on a system they want, is a desperate way to get you to make more compromises in their favor, a common tactic among fans (just look at last Pokémon game), if they manage to round up enough people they usually succeed, only problem is that you have to be the primary target audience for it to work. My favorite quote about this is “Nobody hates Starwars as much as people who loves Starwars..” 😆

Yeah, if you don't care about something, you just don't think about it.  Reminds me of the new handheld console Playdate.  It's interesting... I have zero desire to get one, and I don't hate it.  In fact, I just don't think about it.  If people like it, cool.  If it fails, then it fails. But I'm not going to go one every YouTube video about it and post why I don't like it or why it should fail.

For others in here... would be interested in knowing where you first heard about it as well!

I think I mentioned it in my first post, but I was searching on YouTube for some kid friendly game to play with my daughter, and stumbled over one of your first interviews/trailers over a year ago.

Hi Bloodfire!,

Welcome to the thread and thank-you for sharing your story and favorite games!  Archon is already on our list... and you may have seen our Missile Command update as well.

Question for you... where was the first place or time you heard about Amico?

I'm curious to understand where folks first heard about us.

For others in here... would be interested in knowing where you first heard about it as well!

Thanks Bloodfire... hope to see ya around these parts and please let me know if you ever have any questions.  Will try to answer them as best I can.

I heard about a new Atari console years back(still not out😭) and they mentioned Intellivision was having a new console too. From there I found the mailing list and was pumped to be one of the first 100,000 to sign up!

Bet Amico comes out before the new Atari 🤣

Tommy,

I thought of some other game ideas that might work on Amico as 2D/2.5D

  1. Silver Hawks (80's cartoon) (there was a board game made for this show).
  2. Biker Mice from Mars (90's cartoon) (there was a game made for it on SNES, it also got a game on DS & PS2).
  3. Street Sharks (90's cartoon) (a ripoff of TMNT but with sharks, lol).

There was a short run of a comic book series for Street Sharks.  The TV show never had a game made for it.

Also, I think someone mentioned this before, a Voltron game.  Wouldn't that be something?

I first heard about it from the Intellivision Productions facebook page and/or mailing list when it was announced Intellivision Productions was turning into Intellivision Entertainment.  BTW, I'm glad you didn't stick with the red logo that was in one of those original emails - reminds me of somewhere that isn't so SAFE.   🔥😈

Thanks for the response Tommy, and am very excited about the Amico.  I first heard about it around 3 weeks ago or so... was Google searching for 'simple video games' or 'video games for young kids', something along those lines, and at some point in that searching something about the Amico bubbled up, otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.  Since that time I've watched several videos on Youtube regarding the Amico and have preordered the wood version on fig.co.  Can't wait to play it with my kids ages 6, 3, 3, and wife!

Currently my kids and wife only play games on their iPads, but that will change with the Amico when we can all play together.

Imagine that people that are into casual safe games and mobile  gaming being interested in the Amico.  Lol some said that would never happen.  Thanks Bloodfire for posting this.

Yeah... I'm a HUGE fan of Tron (as well as most of the folks in here) and although the lighting can be changed to whatever you want... the Graphite Black console with the TRON blue lighting was definitely an homage to TRON.

:)

Hope to see ya around here!

I'm hoping you guys design a specific TRON game that ties into the previous 4 games that are for Intellivision.

Would be amazing to see something like that.  I don't mean like a quickie single style game, I mean more like a Zelda type adventure game where you traverse the realm of the Tron world, much like 2.0 was, but on the level and style the Amico graphics all for.

Using the perspective designed for Skiing gives you on the Amico, something like that.  Imagine being a tiny Flynn avoiding recognizers, tanks...riding a light cycle.... Etc

Wow... That would blow the minds of a lot of games and fans of Tron for sure.

Once again it sounds like people want more complex adventure games. I see this a lot, maybe simple experiences isn't what people are really looking for in today's consoles. People want to get most out of their money and adventure games is what people really seem to want judging by a lot of comments I've seen.

That is kind of like saying I interviewed a group of gardeners and it seems the most popular hobby in the world is growing plants. Of course the Atari Age crowd (including me) like certain retro games (casual or not) and hope those get remade. Also almost everyone here is a gamer of some ilk and not just a super casual gamer. However nobody (including Tommy) wants the Amico to be like a mile wide mud puddle of simple, causal games. That would make it a toy. I think we all know, expect and appreciate the Amico will be maybe 20-35% hyper causal games (cornhole and the like), another 20 to 35% casual but not trivial games (like Evel Knievel, Asteroids, etc.) and the balance will have a bit more grunt like Utopia (semi complex strategy), Cloudy Mountain (semi RPG) and Night Stalker (semi hard core run & shoot). We are just strategically rooting for a few games here & there for the casual & non casual class that appeal to us.

From his description of a Tron game, it didn't seem like it would need to be any more complex than what I imagine Cloudy Mountain will be.  Just because it is an adventure game doesn't mean it has to be complex to understand and play - it would really come down to the controls and game design.  Having said that, I also think that in years 3 and 4 of the Amico - after it has established itself in the marketplace, there will be more room and appetite for games that start pushing the edge a bit for more advanced play.  Think of that 9yo who got an Amico when she was 6, still loves it and plays it, but wants to expand a bit without jumping into the deep end with the XBox, Playstation, or whatever Nintendo has at that point.  I think of it similar to the evolution of complexity between Super Mario Brothers and Super Mario Brothers 3 or Super Mario World.

I think we all know, expect and appreciate the Amico will be maybe 20-30% hyper causal games (cornhole and the like), another 20 to 30% casual but not trivial games (like Evel Knievel, Asteroids, etc.) and the balance will have a bit more grunt like Utopia (semi complex strategy), Cloudy Mountain (semi RPG) and Night Stalker (semi hard core run & shoot). I'm still not totally sure what the amico is gonna be. I'm still waiting to see what it's really all about. Haven't really seen any of this co-op in action other than a little missile command gameplay. Still don't understand how a lot of the games will have co op.

I just saw Zelda and assumed it would be an adventure game with a lot too it. Zelda games are complex in my mind

They are very complex. My wife loves Breath of the wild but I have no time for a game like that. The last Zelda I finished was A Link to the Past SNES And Link’s Awakening on Gameboy !!!

I agree that there will be a balance of games with some being less casual than others but I’m sure even a game like Cloudy Mountain will be no where near as complex and those types of games on a Sony or Microsoft console . We will likely have “complex” Games Amico style.

I also would like to see a spectrum of games from super casual to more strategic and complex on the Amico. But I think this is their plan anyway.

One thing I think would be important: that all the different games share some Amico-ness. Something you feel familiar with and what you associate with the special Amico spirit. It's like great companies have some corporate identity, so in the best case, also the Amico system including the games will have some distinctive identity.

Because all games that are released for the system must go through Intellivision Entertainment, this is something they can accomplish if they want.

I loved the Network categorization system of the old Intellivision (Sports, Action, Strategy, Space etc.) with the different box colors. Maybe for Amico something similar can be used to categorize the different kinds of games from hyper casual to advanced so that the customer has some orientation in finding the kind of game he is looking for.

I hope the Intellivision Amico will be a system I can feel home again - like the original Mattel Intellivision was for me in the 1980s.

I'm a casual gamer I don't own any current or past gen consoles. I was a gamer back in the N64 days.
