Controller Extension Cable

As far as I know, Atari never produced their own extension cables for the 5200. Consoles in those days were intended to be set up near the player, not near the TV, so shorter controller cables and looooong RF and power cables were the norm.

Extension cables designed for PC joysticks have worked fine for me, as long as they have molded rubber/plastic connectors which can accommodate interlocking tabs. I recommend getting ones like these (not mine) ...

... since they will mate properly with the 5200's original joystick cable. (They also work well with the Atari XEGS keyboard.) You'll see a lot of DB15 extension cables with metal-hooded connectors and thumbscrews, but in my opinion these aren't a good fit for the 5200 at all: you'd have to shave down the original plug to get it to fit into the male end, and the female end won't sit deeply enough in the console's joystick port to make a secure connection. Also, depending on their original purpose, these cables may not even be fully pinned.

There also seems to be a bunch of cheap extension cables with hard, boxy-looking plastic connectors, like these ones (again, not mine) ...

... which also don't look like a good fit for the 5200, for many of the same reasons.

I can vouch for these cables. They work well with my devices including my Master Play Clones. Prior to the Model 5907's I was using the boxy looking ones and they would tend to disconnect during game play quite often. BTW, there are several eBay auctions currently running for the 5907's. All of them appear to offer free shipping and the one below seems to be the best deal at the moment, due to crushed packaging, which won't matter. :)
