Joystick failure

Recommended Posts

Have a joystick adapter and two modern Atari joysticks from a Flashback. Powered up my TI today and the up direction does not work, tried both sticks on both ports. Any tips on testing the adapter and the console? Any common cap or resistor failure that I can check for? Thanks.

you probably already know about the ALPHA LOCK key thing? :)

No, I didn't. And, yes, the caps lock was on. HAHA.

Would you like to modify your console? It's beginner level soldering. Read about fixing the alpha lock problem once and for all by adding a diode (follow link on that thread to MainByte article).

Interesting. Maybe once I get my electronics bench outfitted and pickup an untested console for modification. Otherwise I want to keep my console as original as possible.

It's a nice easy mod and doesn't even require removal of the keyboard, which now days can be problematic because those ribbon cables have been known to self-destruct from becoming so brittle over the decades. It's a nice thing we have Arcadeshopper in our ranks, as he's started carrying replacement cables for unfortunate users.
