ussexplorer #1 Posted June 20, 2003 To sum this up. I didn't even realize the two systems was even related. I read the name and realized yea, they will run the same stuff. One was big and ugly. The other looked nice and new. The carts was always nice and small. I can understand some one who wants the brown and gold system (Yea for retro stuff). But, I think my atari wood grain system looks much better than the gold/brown Intellivision. I got a Intellivision II that looks great. To bad the speech adaptor is the original one. But, I can't complain. Came all in one unit. What game system do you think look ugly or great? Later, Josh
bcostin #2 Posted June 20, 2003 I have a brown-and-gold one, myself. I do kinda like the looks of both Intellivision units, but I think the Sears "Super Video Arcade" model is probably my favorite variation. I'm hopelessly lost in the early 80's. Mendon #3 Posted June 20, 2003 I actually prefer the Brown/Gold model for looks and because its easier to turn off then having to "hold the black button down for 5 sec's" that the INTV2 requires you to do. Also some games (Coleco) don't work on the INTV2. But a good reason to have INTV2 is you will need it if you are going to invest in the System Changer because it doesn't work on the original INTV. And if you are going to be a total INTV collector and get the computer mod and keyboard, then its nice to have everything set up and have it look the same. Very sharp looking in my opinion. In my life, I've only seen a couple of the Voice Mod's that match the look of the INTV2; most match the original INTV. They are extremely rare and VERY expensive. Not sure if they were ever put on Kmart/Target store shelves or not. Mendon
Bivotar #4 Posted June 20, 2003 The controllers on the Intellivision II are VERY cheap. Same basic controller, but they cut some major corners on the production of these. Unlike the originals, they detach from the unit, but they probably had to do that because they anticipated people needing to replace them! The on/off/reset button is a huge pain IMO. I think the gold/woodgrain of the original is damn sexy.
+RangerG #5 Posted June 20, 2003 The INTV II controllers are cheap, but I love having the long cord on them. That was an upgrade.

Later, Josh I always thought the INTV 2 looked like a cheap piece of plastic and the original looked cooler. Though in reality they're both cheap pieces of plastic. I guess the INTV 2 looks like the cheapER piece of plastic.
+-^CrossBow^- #7 Posted June 20, 2003 I love my Sears Super Video Arcade model!!! Has a very distinctive look, better built original type controllers, and they are DETACHABLE!!! I actually took the guts out of my working model 1 Mattel unit so that I could have this working Sears model instead.
Brad2600 #8 Posted June 20, 2003 I like the INTV2 because it's more compact and modern looking. However, I own an INTV and I like the brown and gold color. It looks really nice..but not as cool as the Atari woodgrain. Detachable joysticks are a must..so I'll be looking for an INTV2 someday soon. 3rd party joysticks work better. JB #9 Posted June 22, 2003 I love the INTV1. It's ALMOST as classy looking as a 5200(best. case. ever.). As far as controllers... While I loathe hard-wired controllers on principle(a rash of severed cords on my NES and SNES has made me a tad leery of anything that can't be replaced), I haven't had a problem with the INTV's pads(which also have a nice protective cubby). ... Well, aside from the fundamental flaw in their design. Heaven forbid you want to press more than one button at once.
King Atari #10 Posted June 22, 2003 I like the original INTV model best. Nice and retro, though a 6-switch 2600 puts it to shame. Fun to compare the two.
Atari2600Lives #11 Posted June 26, 2003 Ok I guess I am in the minority here but I love my Intellivision 2. The brown one looks ugly to me but I guess the real reason was that the Intellivision 2 was the one I purchased originally and played the heck ut of....nostalgia wins over. BTW some Intellivision games do not play on Intellvison 2.
ubersaurus #12 Posted June 26, 2003 Sears model is what I think the best...plays all INTV games, detachable controllers with long cords, ugly color scheme, but who cares. I have an INTV 1 and its alright, but the hard wired controllers have been givin me problems lately.
Inky #13 Posted June 26, 2003 MOre specifically, the Coleco games for the INTV won't play on the II. Good reason to have both.
jsoper #14 Posted June 26, 2003 MOre specifically, the Coleco games for the INTV won't play on the II. Good reason to have both. You can make the Coleco games work on an INTV2 is you're crazy enough to try this mod: http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/intv2_cmod.html Word Fun still won't work, but I think it's included in one of the Learning Fun carts anyway. Big Player #15 Posted June 27, 2003 The original Intellvision looks the best. I have two. Wish it did have detachable controllers. Unless you're good with hardware, I guess you're screwed if one of the controllers break.
Desolate One #16 Posted June 27, 2003 The Intellivision II controllers are DREADFUL and it's a pain in the ass to turn off! I prefer the original by far!!! I should know since I have 3 Intellivisions and 2 Intellivision II w/ extra controllers!
Vic George 2K3 #17 Posted June 27, 2003 The Intellivision II console was the best-looking IMO. Not sure I liked the idea of having one button be both the Reset and Power switch. Also didn't like how it came with NO pack-in game (Mattel could've given us something to play with, like Astrosmash). The gamepad controllers are somewhat better, with the 12-button keypad being more membraneish than bubble-press.

I think they were sort of a limited distribution thing, but they did exist as I had one. In fact, here's a current eBay auction showing the box with the Burger Time pack-in sticker on: Intellivision Auction Here's Lock 'n Chase: Intellivision Auction 2 Mendon

It was probably that considering when I bought an Intellivision II (in 1984), there was NO pack-in game that came with mine.
