carlsson #5 Posted April 7, 2019 Has anyone ever been diagnosed with being allergic to video games?
thetick1 #6 Posted April 7, 2019 (edited) I guess it depends on if your definition of allergic: My son is allergic to video games https://www.circleofmoms.com/moms-kids-adhd/my-son-is-allergic-to-video-games-684646 Edited April 7, 2019 by thetick1
Pixelboy #7 Posted April 7, 2019 This commercial could have worked back in the early 90s, but today, it's more like an anachronism. Is that a Famicom cart, by the way?
mbd30 #8 Posted April 7, 2019 There are people who still play retro games with their kids so this isn't completely unrealistic.
0078265317 #9 Posted April 7, 2019 As I said 8th from bottom it is a retron hd 10. I read it somewhere. Looks like it is. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/276324-post-a-random-pic-thread/page-
derFunkenstein #10 Posted April 8, 2019 The mom is blowing a cartridge and rolls of dust billow out of it. Then she sticks it into what looks a Retron. I really like that it's a Famicom cart and the RetroN HDs that have the angled power button on the corner only work with NES carts.
S1500 #11 Posted April 8, 2019 Is that an actual Famicom game, or did they redo the label?
0078265317 #12 Posted April 9, 2019 I really like that it's a Famicom cart and the RetroN HDs that have the angled power button on the corner only work with NES carts. If it only works with nes carts then why is a famicart fitting inside?
Flojomojo #13 Posted April 9, 2019 Same reason every game on TV sounds like VCS Pac-man and Donkey Kong. Same way Harrison Ford flies the Millenium Falcon. Same way you're gonna get rich from Amway®. IT'S ALL FAKE
+frankodragon #14 Posted April 9, 2019 It looks like a pirated Famicom cart- probably a multi-cart. Then again it could also be a pirated(?) version of Snow Bros. or other carts that use the same design.
Keatah #15 Posted April 9, 2019 Same reason every game on TV sounds like VCS Pac-man and Donkey Kong. Same way Harrison Ford flies the Millenium Falcon. Same way you're gonna get rich from Amway®. IT'S ALL FAKE Internet and media fakery is at an all-time high and not getting any better. It's dangerous to your brain to remember such activity, because memories become clouded over time and more easily mistaken for real truthful stuff. CatPix #16 Posted April 9, 2019 (edited) If it only works with nes carts then why is a famicart fitting inside? You can see that the game is sitting VERY high in the console; most likely they just pushed the cart into the slot and what you see on the display is either another system running, or even more likely it's just a video The graphics looks more like pseudo 8 bits made using Flash; it might be the recording but it looks jittery and the sprites are too big for NES (for a regular game at least) Edited April 9, 2019 by CatPix
derFunkenstein #17 Posted April 9, 2019 If it only works with nes carts then why is a famicart fitting inside? because Famicom carts are smaller than NES ones. They fit in the slot, but there's no guarantee they fit into the cart connector just based on that commercial.

carlsson #21 Posted April 10, 2019 (edited) I want the commercial to have a bit of a darker backgrund, like her husband left the family and all they got from him is this old, dusted video game. Being a single mom with allergy, or if it is the child who is vulnerable, is tough so sometimes they need to bond and have fun. I can even consider taking it one notch further so the dad died in one way of another, making her a widow with a small child and a big dog. Edit: Ok, so she's wearing a wedding ring which probably disproves my theory, unless of course she is still grieving and has been unable to get on with her life. Maybe the husband died because he gambled away all their money, got a "visit" from his loan shark, couldn't take all the pressure, and offed himself. This Famiclone and pirate cart were left on their front porch, asking if they were ready to "get dusted".
Flojomojo #23 Posted April 10, 2019 They picked a sweet moment for the commercial, but it's actually a very sad story. After graduating from college, Jane Pendleton spent a year teaching English in Japan. While there, she enjoyed the thriving video game scene and was gifted a Famicom cartridge from her students. They thought that she resembled the pink-haired protagonist in her frequent misunderstandings with the headmaster, an elderly man nicknamed "The Old Wizard" behind his back by the other foreign faculty. Assuming she would never be able to see the game in action. the cartridge sat unplayed in her crawl space for more than 20 years. Jane went on with her life raising her now-7-year-old son, Jackson. At a cocktail party, Jane mentioned her Japan experiences to a middle-aged "retro gamer" Steven. Steven instantly knew the game, and when he got home, he sent her a Hyperkin Retron 1 NES clone from his collection of game consoles. Jane opened the package, found her box of Japanese memorabilia, blew a considerable amount of dust from the old Famicom cartridge, sat down on their allergen-filled couch with Jackson. Together they enjoyed a good laugh at the primitive graphics and gameplay of the silly old game. Later that day, she experienced many of the unpleasant side effects of Claritin, which she had taken for the first time because of allergies to the English sheepdog they were fostering after the death of its owner, in addition to the 200 other allergens in their house. Rather than attributing her fatigue, nervousness, stomach pain, diarrhea, blurred vision, and skin rash to the drug, she blamed the video game. Jane boxed up the new console, the dusty old game, and placed them back into storage. She continued taking Claritin but neither she nor Jackson touched a video game again. Fifteen years later, at the age of 22, Jackson lives with a crippling video game addiction, spending all of his time and large amounts of money on online games, while yearning to recreate that one brief moment of happiness with his mother. He supports himself via monetization of his Twitch stream, which broadcasts 19 hours a day. Jane moved to the Mojave desert to escape her allergies and has stopped taking Claritin after a lengthy struggle to find the cause of her health issues. She remains estranged from her son, who due to his condition, only communicates in-game. She no longer has pets. Steven never heard from either of them again. He can be seen three times a week in his regular YouTube show, "Middle Aged Guy Rants About Video Games" in front a backdrop of his NES/Famicom collection. Steven is one of Jackson's biggest Twitch backers, unbeknownst to Jackson or his mother, and has always kept an English sheepdog, in their honor.

+frankodragon #25 Posted April 10, 2019 Only she was duped to find out that instead, her game was actually Bubble Gum Rosy...err Bubble Gum Rossie from the infamous Action 52 and the plastic fumes emanating from the heat of the cartridge made her only delusional as she thought she was playing a game about a girl with pink hair fighting a wizard who was probably a bridgekeeper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9X_TKh9UfQ
