donjn #1 Posted April 12, 2019 I know very few have s-video enabled but I recently got a Commodore 1702 monitor and plugged the Chroma and Luma cables into the back and the picture was amazing and s-video like. Much better than the front which is just a composite plug. Did I get lucky and get an Atari 800XL with Chroma / Luma (s-video) enabled?
+Nezgar #2 Posted April 12, 2019 Crack it open and see if it was modded by a previous owner. Also, check if the cable you're using for 'chroma' is actually 'composite' (see if it works in the composite input at the front of the 1702) - which can also be used for chroma in a pinch, but is not as good.
+mytek #3 Posted April 12, 2019 Since the composite video signal has color information combined with luminance, it can serve as a poor man's chroma connection, which is probably what is happening. In most cases it works perfectly fine for S-Video.
xrbrevin #4 Posted April 12, 2019 if unmodded, it could well be an 800XLF with the Freddie chip
