Atari 800: Got the yellow out and dull Donkey Kong colors

Recommended Posts

Welll I took the advice from a few people on this forum and got the yellow (actually mine was more of a brown ;) ) of my Atari 800. I used the peroxide cream from Sally Beauty. It is actually called Salon Care Cream Developer. I used the 40% version, I gave it two treatments. First was almost all day in the sun. The second on the following day for just a couple of hours. I did not treat the keyboard as I did not want to risk it.

All in all, I think it came out pretty well.

So the first game I had to fire up after 30+ years was Donkey Kong. The only cartridge game I have. The colors seem awfully dull or dim. Is this normal? My guess it is and it is because of the various tricks used to get multiple players on the screen at the same time. Well I am assuming the game uses player missle.

That came out great! Aside from the chipped guard around the reset key, it looks exactly the way I remember my 800 looking when I got it.

I got mine as a used demo unit from Sears when the 1200XL came out so its keyboard was a little worse for wear. It was still a beast though. Everything worked like new.
