Crownland going to CPC... What a surprise!

Recommended Posts

One day I hope the other half of the Atari 8-bit's will be able to play it. ;)

oh but that's impossible even though it can be converted to run on a dorito chip... lol!

If a program is optimized to run using all the frames available in 60 hz, it is usually trivial to fix up the timing and concatenate the code to to fit the longer cycle run of 50hz. When a program is written to use the entire 50 cycle run, it becomes harder to push the trailing extra cycle code out to the next available cycle run of 60hz It isn't that it can't be done as the speed of ntsc can be used to execute code rather than wasting it. A conversion would require that the code be spread out across the frames and code be executed instead of delays. That equalizes things.

Flicker should be less perceptible at 60 hz, if you see it increase, then you know the whatever it is can more than likely run just fine with re organized code. It's almost always easier to convert from 60 hz to 50 hz. Speed can be an issue for certain aspects but you have frames to drop and code to fill in for the extra cycles so it normally evens out.

P.s.- The reason I created this topic ;)...

The scrolling is nice, but I doubt they will manage to keep 50fps with software sprites

Did they manage to get the Hardware scrolling to work without the ROM Patch?

That's better than 0% of Atari ST machines being able to play it (as it's not out yet) :P

I'm somewhat surprised to see Crownland being ported to other platforms. Not because it isn't a good idea or those platforms are not suited for it, but because the game on A8 is pretty short and it seems like it could be developed quite a bit more before porting.
