Lynx Repair resources

Recommended Posts

I noticed a number of people asking for repair support. I did a little searching and there doesn't seem to be a lot out there specifically for the Atari Lynx. I did find this guide:

https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Atari_Lynx

It looks like it covers a lot of the basic repairs that the Lynx may need and would be really useful for those willing to get their hands dirty.

As I stumble across other resources I'll post them on this thread.

Stumbled across this today. very nice guide, including re-capping.

I also remembered eStarland offers some repairs. I've never used them but they have been offering the service for quite some time.

This is fantastic for beginner diy. Just buy the kit and follow the guides!

... and burn the PCB :-o

Soldering/desoldering requires skills and tools.

Not so difficult following a good tutorial and making some experience with circuits of low value, but better don't start with a circuit with SMD coponents and small traces..

I'd argue differently. Changing caps is not a beginner task, not because of the SMD components on the motherboard but because cleanly desoldering existing caps is not trivial and you need proper tools and experience to do that. The first time I recapped a Lynx I used solder wick, that was a huge load of work, then I got myself a desoldering iron with a pump and that was so much easier to do. I've since replaced the power circuit (which has SMD components) and that wasn't a huge deal, but then again I am doing a lot of SMD soldering these days :P

Best Electronics really can't be over looked for this category. I don't believe they offer repair services but they have any and every part I have ever needed, not just for the Lynx but any Atari system.

It can be a pain to order from them, their site is as retro as the stuff they sell. Best bet is to call. I've heard he (the main guy running it) can be tempermental and just refuse to sell to you if you piss him off, but I have had nothing but good experiences with him.

Lol I know right?

Still it is a great resource. I bought a brand new, sealed in box, Lynx from them years ago. I forget the price but it was well worth it.

I would be looking for various things when I was collecting for the 2600 and Lynx, site can be painful to navigate, but there are treasures throughout. The times I called he was great help. Alright enough advertising for them lol.

To be honest I kinda like the website. It seems fitting to me considering what they service.

I found this site looking for re-capping kits but it looks like a good resource for other Lynx parts too.

I liked the detail of this guide too:
