Guest
looks like a first gen (home build). i thought the Ramrod originals were bigger boards. without knowing for sure, what it's supposed to be - i'm in the dark here. anyone any clues? or a copy of a relevant manual thanks Edited May 24, 2019 by Guest
JR>
Looks like just a simple OS switcher for an XL computer. Switch enables either the stock OS or the OS on the EPROM.
1050
I'm with JR> here, home rolled only. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/270614-newell-osn-for-400800/ http://atariage.com/forums/topic/242338-ramrod-mmos-document-attached/ Ramrod was for 800 only and much bigger. Personality board replacement entirely. There are a couple of posts with pictures of it. How it's going to work on an XL is anybody's guess other than an 800 OS choice obviously.
JR>
Actually there was also a RamRod board for the XL line too. It was basically a 3 OS switcher. It came with Newell's OSN which was OSb compatible, and had fast math routines and Omnimon built in. It was often sold with Omniview XL as one of the alternate OS chips. https://archive.org/details/RAMROD-XL
Rybags
The only reason you'd have something like that for the OS is a switcher or as a source of the data or (more likely) much of the address bus. In which case you'd have many more wires leading away from it. Though not to say it wasn't part of something bigger - you might have something like a Qmeg OS Rom in conjunction with 256K or better Ram. Guest
to clarify: I removed this from a working 800XL machine yesterday. two positions for the switch: UP: with option = Atari self test w/o Option = blue Atari "Ready" DOWN Option = single cursor, dark blue screen w/o option = darker blue screen with white Atari "Ready" with Select = David Young Omnimon XL © 1984
Rybags
Yeah, it would be Omnimon XL or Omniview XE. The Ramrod upgrade seems to be a related product. http://www.cyberroach.com/analog/an25/onmiviewXL.htm You can find manuals online if you look around. I've just stared it in Altirra but my config must be wrong as it's not executing the monitor commands.
