Can I use RespeQt or Ape on the Atari 600XL Stock Machine

Hi all:

 

Can I use a 600Xl stock machine with RespeQt or ape and an sio device? I only have 16 Meg ram, the PC has 8 Gigs and is 64 Bit, Windows 7 Professional. I will of course be upgrading the Atari machine soon.

I think you mean 16K of RAM.

 

But yes, provided the software you are trying to load will run in a 16K machine. Many XEX files will, and even some ATR game disk images will, but relatively few.

 

Heck, you can even boot Atari DOS on a 16K machine but you won’t have much memory for user programs. DOS 2.5 leaves something like 6K or so free at the BASIC “READY” prompt.
