Rybags #2 Posted June 9, 2019 In recent times, software playback has become a lot better - there's a thread around with PWM audio that was started probably a year or two ago. Check this thread for lots of good stuff http://atariage.com/forums/topic/279232-fujiconvert-01/ The easiest way to produce suitable audio data is to use a PC based tool such as Audacity to edit and massage the data. Then export it as headerless raw 8-bit samples. Then use another utility, or quick/dirty program on the Atari to convert it to the final format, e.g. packed samples that are 2, 4 or 8 bits in size. In the modern day we don't really need to blank the screen either - delay loops made that necessary but there's way better methods such as timers or VCount waits.

Something like 50 minutes for a couple second demo but it was amazing back then.
brenski #4 Posted June 9, 2019 (edited) yep. I have a repaired "2-bit systems" cart - it ain't great by any stretch - most sampling carts of the time were limited by the same hardware constraints:. a few seconds and incredibly hissy and tinny in equal measures - sounds like recordings were taken in a biscuit tin. there was something called a "stutter disk" - the (basic) program took elements of a very short sample and stuttered/stretched/sped up to make is sound like those late 80s sampler records. because the original sample was quite short, the quality was a little better...but in reality was nothing short of a loop. i created a couple (back then) myself, and I remember one excellent ZZTop one sent to me by a guy in Scotland. PVM is the way to go for modern sampling Edited June 9, 2019 by brenski
