Forum Upgrade Today, June 15th! PLEASE READ!

I'm sure there are more important things on the list, but Al, have you decided if you're going to change the "Like" icon from a heart to a thumbs up like I suggested (and others agreed with and provided sample "thumbs up" options)?

Additionally, and I think I may have come across this referenced a while back on here post-forum upgrade, but could time stamps on posts and messages be more exact? For example, it's not all that helpful to see "23 hours ago," "18 hours ago," etc. Perhaps something like "Today at 12:06 AM" instead of "16 Hours ago." I get that "5 minutes ago" has a clean look and feel to it, so maybe anything under X time (five hours?) get the minute/hour rule and anything beyond that gets a specific time stamp? Feel like that would help a lot...

When you get a chance, it would be nice if the attachment boxes expanded to fit the file name. Here's an example:

https://atariage.com/forums/topic/293671-wip-atax-atax-development-thread/?do=findComment&comment=4319502

attachment_problem.png.fb88c6557860077bf469322dd91ba155.png

One ends with .bin and the other with .bas, but you can't see the rest of the file names since they are cut off.

So.. just another odd thing. I posted in the "Wasting your life one gif at a time" thread for example, today. Yet when I do a stream for "content I posted in", or "content I follow", it shows up in neither.  It's not a huge deal, but I'm just trying to figure out if it's me, or not. i.e. Is it something in the way I'm setting the stream/search?  <edit> the 2nd pic is "content I posted in", I just accidentally cropped it.

I've installed an updated version of the AtariAge forum theme that may fix the stretching issue in IE11.  Can someone who's using IE11 and saw this issue previously test it again to see if it works properly now?  You may want to clear your browser cache before doing this test.

Thanks!

Just an update.. NOW I see the thread I posted in showing up when I click topics I posted in. Maybe it takes a few hours processing time on the back end? I dunno.

I don't know why threads wouldn't show up in search results immediately. I believe the search engine is updated immediately when new posts and topics are made.  If this continues to be an issue, I'll have to investigate.  It's not something I've personally witnessed yet.

The System page (under Systems) is still wrong.

underneath 5200, 7800, Lynx, Jaguar it still says, example:

Atari 5200 Rarity Guide Search

Atari 2600 Rarity GuideThe Atari 2600 is the system most people collect games for. This is likely due to more people owning a 2600 than any other classic gaming system. Back in its heyday, who didn't have an Atari? This has two effects. First many people have a nostalgia for the 2600 and pick one up to play all the games they remember from their past. And second, because so many people had one, it's one of the easiest systems to collect for as there are so many games floating around...….and so forth

Al - if you are using Windows 10, then it also has IE11 installed.  Just do a search for it Internet Explorer (there is no shortcut).

In my Win7 laptop using IE11 it looks the same as before (cache = cleared).

There is no proper archive functionality at the moment. It was removed from the forum some time ago, and I was using a third-party plugin previously for this.  Nobody has written a new plugin to offer the same functionality for the current version of the forum software. I'd likely need to pay someone several hundred dollars to add this functionality.

Before upgrade I could find who was moderating sub-forums (I liked it especially for HSCs), now I can't find it. Iirc there were also a list with global moderators.

At the very top of the forum you can hit the drop down next to "More" and choose "Staff". It will give you a list of all moderators, unfortunately it does not specify which forums they have moderator rights in.

If Invision made cars, they'd only have 3 wheels.

Albert: "This isn't a tricycle, it's a rectangular car. It needs 4 wheels. This car has two in the back and only one on the front left side."

Invision guy: "We're sorry, but we feel that three wheels are more than enough for any vehicle. You are the first person to bring this up, so it seems that the majority of our customers agree with us. We can't imagine why anyone would need a fourth wheel, but we're sure that a third party could provide that fourth wheel if you think you need it that badly."

Albert: "You don't even have a place to put the fourth wheel. Why should I have to pay a lot of extra money to add something that should already be there?"

Invision guy: "Sir, as stated before, you're the first person who has mentioned a 'fourth wheel.' We don't see a need for it. We cannot provide every little thing that individual customers might need."

To be fair, this is a very complex piece of software, and I feel Invision did a great job overall with version 4.x (we were running 3.4.x before upgrading).  It was written from the ground up, and initially 4.0 was missing a bunch of (mostly minor) functionality that was present in 3.4.x.  Much of that has been restored in the four years since its arrival on the scene and what we upgraded to (4.4.4).  There are some things I do NOT like, such as the Messenger, although they are now making improvements to that (partly based on a laundry list of feedback I gave them after upgrading).  I'm also disappointed that they've done little to improve the Blog module after all this time, so that's another area I need to write up a list of improvements I'd like to see and share with them.

There are niceties that I'd like to see them add, such as the ability to archive either an individual conversation or your entire inbox.  Both are a bit problematic because individual conversations and (of course) your entire Inbox can be rather large in size and could require a fair bit of processing to archive and zip up.  This is the main reason the feature has not been present in the software for some time.  I will post about this on their Feedback forum, though, and maybe it can arrive with version 5.0, which they are presently working on.  It'll be some time before that is finished and released, though, so I'll see if I can find a third-party to add this functionality.

Too bad. ?

Would you increase the storage instead?

Speaking of things that were removed...any chance you could bring back the "View Unanswered Posts" button that bit the dust quite a long time ago?  It was kind of a handy thing and I would routinely look at it to find questions that people had asked that slipped through the cracks and had gone unanswered.

@fdr4prez I've installed an updated version of the forum theme that should fix this issue.  Can you please try again after you've cleared your browser cache and report back what you see?

Just tried to search my message inbox. It failed. As a test I put in a search term for a message topic that I knew was there and it didn't return any results.

Right now it will only search back a year, so that's probably why it failed.  I complained about this and Invision has fixed it in the next version of the software.  I'll be updating the forum soon to that, I just need to make sure all the plugins work with the new version.

This is what I have..  Right border seems a tad to far and no status section?  But no scroll bar on the bottom either.  I can't remember if the status section displays when not signed in.  I'll sign in as soon as my bone head windows 7 PC decides it wants to load IE ( It gets weird like that some times ).

Anyone else having a problem with dark skin where quoted text can appear to be black on the dark background making it impossible to read?  For example. the text under BREAKING NEWS in this post:

I use the Deflection skin and that text is all highlighted in white on my computer.

I have had issues from time to time though.  The words "Fire! by Palmex?" in this post are invisible on my screen.
