Trip to Corpus Christi

Headed down to Corpus Christi for the weekend for my sister's 50th birthday.  It's close enough that we'd arrive with 23% of range remaining:

so no need to charge, though we usually opportunity charge in Victoria and either grab a quick bite to eat or just use the restrooms.  However, my folks' dog is fighting Kennel Cough so we couldn't board her so had to bring her with.

We didn't want to expose my sister's dogs to it, so we tracked down a dog friendly hotel to spend the night.  None of them had EV charging available, so we ended up doing a full charge at Victoria while eating lunch.  I'd manually routed us to the Supercharger so the car would direct us, and saw something new:

I'd heard about the new preconditioning, but didn't think I'd see it during the summer in Texas. We managed to hit 139 kW @ 594 mi/hr:

From Victoria on we encountered a steady headwind of 20mph, which combined with 75 mph speed limit was impacting range quite a bit - note the 281 mile of range by the battery symbol on the left vs the 212 mile of projected range due to energy usage.

My sister and I Saturday night at her party:

Today the same wind helped us for the drive back, so we arrived at Victoria with just under 30 miles of range remaining.  Since the battery was less full we managed to hit 143 kW @ 609 mi/hr

About 10 minutes after arriving home I was notified of a pending software update, so installed it:

Apparently they worked with Tesla to get access to the car's model, color, and wheel type and rendered your Beach Buggy using that info.

You can bet your ass that once SpaceX starts launching rockets from Boca Chica, I will be driving down there to watch!!  Fortunately Tesla built out the Supercharger network into South Texas, so it's easily doable (especially if you go through McAllen).  Can't wait for this to happen!  I want to see a Falcon Super Heavy and/or Starship launch from there!
