Cybergoth #1 Posted June 26, 2003 Hi there! Dragon Crystal Golden Axe Warrior Golvellius: Valley of Doom Heroes of the Lance Miracle Warriors Phantasy Star Spellcaster Ultima IV Ys: The Vanished Omens What do you think of these SMS RPGs? Which are the must-haves and which suck? I'd love to see a bunch of one-line reviews for these. Or a bunch of X/10 ratings. Or see them sorted into order from best to worst. Please help me setting the right eBay searches Greetings, Manuel

christianscott #7 Posted June 26, 2003 i really enjoyed miracle warriors, it was my first RPG so i wasnt spoiled by other games advancements on the genre. i recommend it to other novice RPGers. i also like Y's, although i enjoyed it more on my turbo duo, the game's music really makes the mood. phantasy star could not hold my interest, it seemed too japanese girly for me. Mad Scientist #11 Posted June 27, 2003 Golden Axe Warrior: This is a very good/ polished game in a Zelda style. It's a personal favorite. Heroes of the Lance: I've only played the NES version, which was enjoyable solely due its license. Is the SMS version equally buggy? Phantasy Star: The hype is probably correct about this being a good game, but I've found nothing more than an empty case at my local thrifts thus far. I guess I'm in the market for a loose cart. Spellcaster: An odd game. The action-sequence controls are a bit shoddy, and the menus are a bit cumbersome, IIRC. I never finished it. If you want lots of noodle vendors, though, this is the game for you. I actually found a spare copy at a thrift today; I guess it's for trade/sale if anyone wants it. Ys: The Vanished Omens: How similar is this to the TG-16/CD version? Is the audio the only difference? Lord of the Sword: Here's one that you omitted from your list. I have no idea about how it plays, as I just found a copy today! I'll give it a try in the near future. -Eric
MegaManFan #12 Posted June 27, 2003 Mad: I have a loose cart spare of it if you're looking to buy or trade.

Spellcaster (pretty lame) Ultima IV (never played) Ys: The Vanished Omens (good enough that I've come back and played it several times)
Ze_ro #14 Posted June 27, 2003 Golvellius all the way! It's pretty much a rip off of the original Legend of Zelda, so if you like that, you'll probaly like Golvellius. --Zero
Cybergoth #15 Posted June 27, 2003 Hi there! Lord of the Sword: Here's one that you omitted from your list. I have no idea about how it plays, as I just found a copy today! I'll give it a try in the near future. I compiled the list from the games listed in this category from GameFAQs: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/sms/list_rpg.html They have Lord of the Sword filed under "Action". Cybergoth #16 Posted July 18, 2003 Hi there! I quite like dragon crystal, Its really a beginners RPG but none the less pretty good. So of the ones suggested this was my first catch on eBay. I really like it. Unlike other RPGs this one provides very quick sessions. Extremely roguelike, but it's great fun. My best game so far was up to level 13 out of 30. But I'm still improving. Thanks for the tip! Greetings, Manuel
DriftChamp #17 Posted August 3, 2003 Phantasy Star and Golden Axe Warrior are my favorite RPGs on the SMS. Although I think that Spellcaster and Golvellius are totally underrated. Spellcaster took me awhile to get into, but after that I was hooked. It's not really an RPG (it's a side-scrolling action game and a menu based game with RPG elements). Golvellius is a fun game too if you like the original Zelda. It played from an overhead view like Zelda, but the dungeons were like a side-scrolling action game or like a vertical shooter where the screen kept moving up. What I also like about it was that most of the screens had hidden secrets (just like in Zelda). Golvellius all the way! It's pretty much a rip off of the original Legend of Zelda, so if you like that, you'll probaly like Golvellius. --Zero
