PixelatedPastJB
I acquired a beaten up Parker Brothers Atari 2600 Kiosk at the beginning of the year. I'm based in the UK where it was made. The unit is basically a wood and metal base with an woody 2600 inside linked up to a 24 cart switcher. I cleaned it up, to the best of my ability and now have it working. The kiosk itself is in pretty good condition for it's age, there's some slight damage to it's shell and wooden sides, and the perspex cover has the back snapped off (it originally had a lock to lock it into place, i still have the extra piece). The controller ribbon was broken/damaged, so I've made another one which is working fine but not attached to the back. It works absolutely fine, however I've noticed there appears to be some carts which don't work, but again not sure if that's due to my carts or with the kiosk itself. I'm thinking of selling it on, as unfortunately I don't really have the room, it's quite big! Trying to gauge interest. Image below. Any questions, please ask!
ianoid
Super cool. Definitely interested.
Grig
That is just sweet. I'm sure someone here will offer a fair price.
mooshue
I'm in the US but would love that kiosk to go with my Imagic kiosk. If no one in the UK snags it and you are up for shipping we can probably make a deal
PixelatedPastJB
I'm having difficulty even coming up with a price for one to be honest. I know I found one that sold back in '06 for over $1000. Other than that I've only seen pictures of one more online. I was offered £550 for it from another eBay buyer when I bought it originally, and that was when it was still just a mess of dirt, cobwebs and broken cables. mooshue
Paid about 1100usd for the Imagic kiosk last year. Seems ballpark is still right around there. Pretty niche market for folks like us. Not everyone has the room or the funds to procure it.
PixelatedPastJB
Hi all, I've recently pushed forward and listed my Kiosk on eBay (with the intention of getting as much coverage to interested parties as possible). Link's below here if anyone was interested when I first posted. I *can* ship worldwide but it'd definitely be expensive. http://ebay.us/Gb7KTz?cmpnId=5338273189
Shawn
Bad idea to put a reserve on it. A lot of potential bidders\buyers won't even bother when they see the "reserve not met".
mooshue
I've inquired about it here and got a shipping quote, but the reserve put me off from bidding also. After those horrid ebay fees and paypal fees you'll clear far less. If you'd land on an actual price here I bet someone would bite.
PixelatedPastJB
I hadn't quite realised that having a reserve on it would alienate bidders, first time I've tried to list something of that value. I'm still looking to sell the item, and Have received offers around the area of £1500. I'm in a position to negotiate however.
PixelatedPastJB
Relisted with no reserve. If anyone's interested and has questions let me know! http://ebay.us/1OOsiR?cmpnId=5338273189 Edited November 18, 2019 by PixelatedPastJB 1
MarcusFrom1982
Never let people tell you how to run your auction. If you feel like a price must be met, then use a reserve. I definitely wouldn't let anyone steal this item.
Greg2600
Wow, what a really cool piece! Obv never knew such a thing existed.

Yeah, I'm quite sad to be getting rid of it, but I just don't have the space for such a large item!

I also suspect many would be afraid of it being damaged in shipping so you might be stuck with primarily "local pickup" bidders.
PixelatedPastJB
Just to add to this, I had a message from an old Parker Bros rep from back in the 80s and he gave me quite a bit more info about the item. Only 40 were made in 1983, and only about a dozen made it into stores with the rest being destroyed, so this is an incredibly rare piece! He remembered placing one in only one store, and remembered one being in Harrods (quite a high end luxury department store) in London. It's name is actually the "Parker Comparitor" and with that I was able to find this old TV Gamer mag article with it showing on page 7 http://www.ataricompendium.com/archives/magazines/tv_gamer/tv_gamer_winter83.pdf
mooshue
Watched that auction. That was a bit too high for me but, glad it got a lot of traction when the reserve was pulled. Definitely went higher than expected. Congrats. Really cool piece.
