3DS to USB Cables

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a couple 3DS to USB cables for a few bucks. I was hoping to use a regular phone charger with the cable and occasionally use a power bank when needed.

However, when I attach the cables to a 5v, 2A charger (also used 5v, 1A) the charging light on the 3DS blinks erratically rather than staying solidly lit when the console is on. Same thing happens with a power bank. The light stays on if the console is powered off.

My question is whether anyone successfully uses this cable to power the 3DS while the console is on. I tried both cables, so I don't think it is because of a defect in one.

I have cables like that (I think they're from Amazon) but I only use them attached to 3DS docks, not while in use.

You might try the same? Use for charging, not charging and playing?

Thanks for your input. They do seem to work fine for charging, and I could avoid using the wall wart with the maddening swivel prongs. I wonder if there is some extra circuitry in the OEM charger that allows you to play and charge simultaneously.

I bought a cheap USB to 3DS charger some time ago from GameStop. (It was marked down cheap for like $5.)

It's always worked to both regular charge and "play" charge. Problem is I don't remember the brand nor does it have any markings.

I swear it was an Energizer brand... Either way, I know I can play and charge at the same time with no issue. Might just be whatever brand you got?

I've got those for ds, 3ds and psp. Never had a problem charging using them, but sometimes have issues if I try to play while charging. Maybe not enough power or something?

MOSt my chargers are Amazon 2a chargers, but I've used old 1a and lower. I wouldn't recommend less than 1 as they take forever to charge.
