Yautja
Hi, In a Facebook group, somebody posted this image: Seems like this version of the game by Mastertronic (1986). Does anybody own the ATR/XEX file for sharing? Edited July 13, 2019 by Yautja .
_The Doctor__
There is an ntsc fixed file here on AA, should be searchable
_The Doctor__
Panther, Elektraglide, last V8, and Dropzone had various hacks and fixes done to them over time varying from timer fixes, to pausing frames etc. I tried to search AA for the Elektraglide fix and oddly it does not show up... It is for certain it was done, I only know of one time anyone deleted all their stuff when they go p*ssed off on AA and I hope that it wasn't his work and possibly got axed. But I'd bet someone downloaded it just like I did and played it... After all it is AtariAge... I'd actually like to play it again myself... the old XP box that stuff was on is long since dead though... edit ... oh great my search fu is terrible again... but I discovered people are creative... ElektraGlide Elektra Glide.... Electra Glide Electraglide... ElectroGlide Electro glide...... yeah have fun... I have a headache... worst comes to worst someone fixes the timer again and adds a little vb grace.... Lost Dragon
Has anyone ever hacked the A8 version so the music behaves in the same manner as the C64 version? .

Shame Adam never carried on with his Snooker / pool game on the Atari 8bit.... Edited July 13, 2019 by Mclaneinc
xrbrevin
the music restarts after every crash so if you crash a lot the music gets repetitive.. i wonder if it is deliberately intended - to make you try harder not to crash! :)
Lost Dragon
t's subtle, but hit an obstacle on the Atari version and so the same on the C64 version and listen to how the music reacts between the 2. It and the faster loading on tape, are the only advantages the C64 version has over the A8 version. C64 version is a slower, more jerky and boring affair. Never tried the Amstrad CPC version. ? And thank you LD, yeah the old tape issue, unless you lived in Eastern europe then most of us never had any turbo tapes...Pain in the backside were tapes on the 8 bit.. And like many ports to the, they ended up slower and clunky, look at Dropzone....Even Archer admitted it was slower..
Lost Dragon
When i moved from the 800XL to the C64, i naturally wanted the games i had loved on the XL on the C64. Some like Spellbound, Zybex, Draconus etc were noticeably better. But Dropzone, Ninja, Elktraglide, Ghostchaser, Rescue On Fractulas etc made me long for the XL, but folks sold it to pay for the C64. Only 1 kid at school had an XL with a disk drive and all he had for it was The Pay Off ? Cartridge software was scarce round my way, where as cassette tapes you could find being sold in petrol stations, market stalls etc, you did not need specialist computer shops to get games. I did look up CPC Elktraglide: Atari it is then.
Mclaneinc
Lol....I'm like many on here, I grew to enjoy many a machine and I still adore my Atari and my C64 which ger equal love but as you say, some ports were better but I found mostly the C64 ports were inferior in look and sound, most used the same old over used sounds and the colour scheme seemed odd BUT when they bothered you did get a better product in many cases. Hence I never sold my Atari and would swap between machines depending on the game..(Still do the same these days) PS...I'm not trying to rubbish other machines, there's some cracking stuff on the CPC but I didn't have one back then and just don't feel anything for them...Sam as the Speccy...yeah boo biss at me Edited July 13, 2019 by Mclaneinc
Lost Dragon
As a nipper, the playground wars at school were rife. But middle age makes you look at the competing formats with nothing but objectivity. The CPC (music aside) ran the Freescape games (Driller, Darkside, Total Eclipse etc) far better than the C64. Also it's versions of Renegade and Gryzor were better. The ZX Spectrum versions of R-Type, Chase H.Q, Robocop, WEC Le Mans shame the C64 versions, plus it had games like Chaos and Rebelstar which never arrived on the C64. No matter what platform i currently had at the time, there was always something a mate on his machine that was either unavailable or done better, than what was on mine. Rybags
Amstrad - the graphics look OK though a bit slow. That music sounds like it's being played through a casette player with an oval shaped pinch-roller. The title screen - I assume that appeared for a later budget re-release? Mclaneinc
Ha ha.....That will be to do with water going down the plug hole the wrong way at your end Seriously, yes, sounds all sorts of wrong but I expect over all its a good port for the CPC? Ely
I'd never of thought of Elektra Glide being a motorbike game until I saw that title screen!
abbotkinneydude
For the sake of comparison, the C64 (left) and ATARI (right) title screens seem absolutely identical. Was this (Atari) title screen done with a PC tool from Poland which allows the juxtaposition of a G2F screen to a single loader program? I can't remember ever seeing this title screen on the U.S. Mastertronic release (and the UK version had the typical English Software font for loading purpose). Same for Ninja from Steve Coleman / Sculptured Software. No title screen on both the UK Tape and the U.S. Disk version from Mastertronic but one on the C64 version (link below). https://www.lemon64.com/games/popup_screen.php?s=ninja;01;2
+CharlieChaplin
Well, the Elektraglide version with title above has one (the first) segment $2020-203A, when looking at this data segment with a disk/sector editor you will read plain text: "Fileversion by Homesoft"... so you know who is responsible for it. Several years ago there was some kind of "contest" at atarionline.pl (and afair also here at AA forum) to add C64, Spectrum and other computer platform titlescreens to A8 games that did not have any titlescreens with the help of G2F. And Homesoft also added several titlescreens to various A8 games so there is, e.g. Ninja with titlescreen or Red Max with titlescreen or Colossus Chess 4 with titlescreen and many others. Just search thru the Homesoft and/or atarionline archive to find the many A8 games with an added titlescreen... Superb info there CC...Really helps when you come across oddities like the Elektra Glide screen....I say oddities because I'd seen many of Adam Billyards games in dev as he was local to Maplin and came in and showed them to me, also as a seller of the software in the shop I got to see all the versions of stuff that we sold and never saw that screen version so its nice to find out where it came from... Thank you..
