I'd be there to sign copies of Gyvolver, but I'm a strict nudist, so it's probably better if I stay home. :D

Spoiler

Trivia

The first part of Gyvolver is pronounced like the "JY" sound from the word gyroscope and the rest is pronounced like "volver" from the word revolver.

Amoeba Jump

Atari 2600

by Dion Olsthoorn

Amoeba Jump is a vertical jumping game where your objective is to guide the amoeba up a never-ending series of platforms without falling. The higher you get, the higher your score will be.

Jumping on red or green mushroom push-buttons will give you a short boost and some bonus points, but best of all: it makes the little amoeba rejoice! When your score gets beyond 1,000 points, little white oval-shaped bacteria start appearing on the platforms, which can be eaten by the amoeba. Each bacteria holds one of the six letters of the word A-M-O-E-B-A. Collect all six and the single next time you jump on a spring, you will get a super boost.

When you reach a certain score, you will enter screens of ‘all white’ or ‘all blue’ platforms. If you first collect all letters from the bacteria and then time your ‘super boost’ jump wisely, you can just fly past these screens without difficulty ?

Gyvolver

Atari 2600

by Duane Alan Hahn (Random Terrain)

For thousands of years, the inhabitants of Gytaraxis have lived in peace thanks to the energy barriers that protect their planet and its power source, the Vityrian Crystals.

Hoping to seize the power crystals for itself in an effort to make its armies invincible, the evil Calamitous Cube has declared war on Gytaraxis. Using virulent vibrations, the Calamitous Cube has eaten holes through the energy barriers that protect Gytaraxis.

In an effort to fend off the Calamitous Cube, the Gytaraxians have called upon the legendary repair ship known as Gyvolver to fix the energy barriers and keep the crystals from falling into the Calamitous Cube’s grasp.

Wizard of Wor Arcade

Atari 2600

by John W. Champeau, Nathan Strum, Mike Haas, Ross Keenum, and Dave Dries

Story

...My hope is whomever finds this message can learn from our misfortune and perhaps be better prepared for the challenges that await.

There is an ancient legend passed down by deep space travelers. The legend of the Wizard of Wor. It tells of an evil wizard who studied in the sciences of dimensional travel and teleportation. It is said that the Wizard possesses the ability to entrap travelers at any point in space and teleport them to his labyrinthian planet. A planet populated by an array of malevolent creatures, all teleported there against their will. The wizard entertains himself by watching these creatures battle each other in a struggle for survival in the land of Wor.

The first time I heard this story I was a young recruit in the star academy. An old, veteran star pilot shared the tale with me over a few pints in the local spaceport. A rite of passage designed to spook young recruits.

Or so I thought.

En route to a lucrative mining job in the Midway 1980 asteroid cluster, our ship’s navigation computer suddenly malfunctioned. It reported our coordinates to be light years off our programmed course before losing all power. Our lifeless ship soon crashed into the jagged surface of the planet below.

Somehow my crew and I managed to survive the crash. We salvaged what we could and set out on foot to climb the tallest peak for a better vantage point. From this perspective we could see a landscape defined by an endless, sprawling maze that reached to the horizon and beyond!

About

Wizard of Wor Arcade is an incredible Atari 2600 port of the arcade game of the same name by John W. Champeau, whose previous efforts include Mappy, Super Cobra Arcade, Scramble, Lady Bug, and Conquest of Mars.  As well as the upcoming Galagon! While a version of Wizard of Wor was released "back in the day" by CBS, this new version is more faithful to the original arcade and adds new features, such as AtariVox support for full speech from the arcade game!  Wizard of Wor Arcade also includes a built-in Maze Editor that allows you to build and play your own mazes!  Included are three mazes from a Wizard of Wor Maze Design Contest held by John W. Champeau back in.

Dragon's Descent

Atari 2600

by Todd Furmanski (Revontuli)

Story

In a time forgotten by all save the oldest of wyrms, a cruel dragon by the name of Molobros achieved heights of greed reviled even by his avaricious kin. Gemstones in particular were prized by him, second only to the power he hoarded and the lives he consumed. His enemies did not defeat him by strength in battle, but ensnared him in a trap built to imprison a god: the Labyrinth.

When unleashed, the Labyrinth surrounded this greatest of dragons, feeding on the boundless hate and ambition of Molobros. Corridors and chambers acted as chains, and grew like wicks of flame even as he tried to escape. The maze encompassed and fused with the dragon's body, then his treasure, then his mind and wicked dreams. The dragon's treasure scattered throughout the twisting passages, and his power seeped into the very walls. Monsters appeared within, extensions of his bound wrath. Molobros could not escape, but the Labyrinth still posed a danger to the wary and a lure to the greedy.

In the ages since, the Labyrinth has served as a prison and a prize. Tales tell of the dead and enslaved guarding the interior, and despite this you will join the many who still brave the mazes within in search of power, or wealth, or freedom...or Molobros himself. In an effort to fend off the Calamitous Cube, the Gytaraxians have called upon the legendary repair ship known as Gyvolver to fix the energy barriers and keep the crystals from falling into the Calamitous Cube’s grasp.

A Roach in Space

Atari 2600

by Vladimir Zúñiga

As part of an experiment, a roach was sent to space...
...But the ship was trapped in a cosmic ray storm...
...And it exploded!

The roach miraculously survived, losing two legs in the explosion, but also acquired the ability to fly through space and shoot energy blast from his antennae!  Your mission is to guide the stranded insect back to earth through a perilous journey infested with all kind of evil space creatures.

The road back home is plagued with evil creatures that will attack our hero using different patterns.  When enough enemies are destroyed (11 in normal mode, 15 in hard mode), a new wave of enemies will take their place.  In addition to the regular enemies, there are four mid bosses and one final boss, each with their own attack patterns and several health points.  Every time a mid boss is defeated, a heart item will appear.  Catch it to recover six health points. Our hero can have a maximum of eight health points.  If you exceed the maximum health  points, the difference is converted to score points. Thus, the fewer health points you lose, the higher your score.

Galagon

Atari 2600

by John W. Cheampeau, Nathan Strum, Ross Keenum, Dave Dries

Pilot your star fighter and defend Earth against the attacking Galagon forces!  Maneuver your ship to dodge missiles and incoming spacecraft and use your arsenal of weapons to destroy the enemy.  Watch out for the tractor beam trying to capture your comrades; if they are taken hostage it will be up to you to rescue them so they can rejoin the battle and double your fire power!  Stay sharp in between battles and practice your shooting skills in the unique challenge stages.

One or two players can compete against each other to earn the rank of Galactic Hero, or team up against the enemy in the co-op mode!  You can also take a break from the battle and become a sharp shooter in the Challenge Mode.

Good luck!

Options

Galagon can be played by 1 or 2 players, alternating turns, or in a special co-operative mode where both players work together to achieve one high score.  From the title screen, press SELECT to cycle through the available game modes: 1 PLAYER, 2 PLAYER or 2 PLAYER CO-OP.

There are three skill levels for Galagon:  NOVICE, STANDARD and ADVANCED.  NOVICE skill level is the easiest and you will start with double ships.  ADVANCED is like STANDARD except the game starts with faster enemies, more enemy missiles, etc.  To cycle through the available skill levels, press the joystick left or right while on the title screen.

Press RESET or the controller button to start the game.

Gameplay

When the game starts, your ship will be placed in the center of the screen and the incoming aliens will start their attack pattern before returning to formation.  To move your ship to avoid the enemies or line up for a shot, press the joystick left or right to move your ship in that direction.  To fire a missile, press the joystick button.

Every so often, a Galagon flagship will leave formation and emit a tractor beam!  You can either avoid the tractor beam, or move your ship to the tractor beam and it will be captured by the enemy.  To rescue your comrade and earn double ships (and double fire power!), wait for the flagship and your captured ship to attack and shoot the flagship.  Be careful not to shoot your captured ship, and also make sure you have ships in reserve before you get captured.  If there is no one to rescue the captured ship, your game will end!

After all enemies are destroyed, you will advance to the next stage.  Every so often there is a special CHALLENGE STAGE where your goal is to try to shoot all the enemies and earn huge bonus points!

The game ends when all reserve ships have been destroyed.

GOOD LUCK!

When playing in 2 player co-op mode, is there two player ships at the bottom of the screen at the same time?

Is there a video of 2 player co-op mode?

Hi there!

The 2 player co-op mode plays like a 1 player game with the following changes:

- when there is one ship on the screen, control changes every 8 seconds from one player to the other (red ship and blue ship)

- when a ship is captured, control of the rescue ship will not change until the captured ship is rescued (or the rescue ship is destroyed)

- when a ship is rescued, the double ships are independently controlled by each player

We have done a lot of testing with co-op and made some tweaks along the way, but the overall consensus is that it's really fun and challenging!
