Keatah
For about the past week ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/ has been down. Anyone know anything about it?
Aunty Entity
Hmm dns still resolves, but the do seem to be off the air, traceroute falls over at 100ge6-2.core1.ash1.he.net for me. Could be a gateway issue of some kind, or perhaps the server has fallen over. Except I just noticed you said a week, so probably not gateway... Keatah
The only possible good news would be just before it went down it was acting intermittently over the course of several days. So perhaps there are technical issues.
Flojomojo
Try this mirror https://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ftp.apple.asimov.net/ Going by this thread, started by you (!) last year (!!), looks like this has happened before. Maybe it's not on the most reliable hosting imaginable. https://www.applefritter.com/content/ftp-asimov At that time, someone suggested this public folder, but it doesn't seem to work at the moment. ftp://public.asimov.net/pub/
Flojomojo
@Keatah is it still actively changing, or pretty much just a historical repository by now? Looks like you could grab the whole thing at https://archive.org/details/ftpsites of course if you're trying to upload contributions, never mind this or my previous post. Keatah
Yes it was/is pretty active. New things daily or weekly. The mirror on Internet Archive is some 5 years out of date. Granted IA is gaining popularity, but it's too tedious to download anything in bulk. Edited August 5, 2019 by Keatah
firebottle
I usually check asimov ftp site for new files every week or so. Last time I did, the index files were dated 7-31-2019. Tried yesterday & today... no response.
Keatah
Well, it is back. Another false alarm. Must be more patient. It's where I upload documentation from time to time.
Keatah
..back down again.. ..back up again.. In another time and place this could be funny. Edited August 5, 2019 by Keatah
The Usotsuki
In another time and place, scattered all over space We've got to find 'em all, gotta find those Dragon Balls Actually, a single point of failure could be a problem, and that's the elephant in the room... Aunty Entity
Where's it hiding? Under the cushions on the sofa? Oh wait, it is the sofa
firebottle
Works for me now. And a lot faster download speed too. Been slow for 6-8 months...
Keatah
Yes I noted the slow speed recently. But. Anyhow. I think this was a DNS dust-up related to the el Paso shooting and 8chan takedown.
Tempest
I periodically download the games directory to my computer as I fear one day it's going to go offline for good
