midwest_cdn #1 Posted June 30, 2003 Hey to all the "old" timer collectors, I was thinking if you could tell me when the atari jaguar scene got so grabby grabby .From going back reading the first few pages of this forum, it appers flash carts, cat boxes and other jag related things were freely passed around for sale or trade. Unlike today . Just wondering when it became so serious? Also jaysmith just wondering if you scored most of your jag stuff back in the day or more recently? Trades certainly seem to be a lot more common these days, when people realised putting prices on everything wasn't necessarily the best idea. And a lot happens behind the scenes where it's not so obvious Stone

It's not like someone is going to trade a used cybermorph for a sealed AvP or trade a S-Video cable for a flashROM.

I'm not so sure things are "grabby grabby". I've had a much easier time in the last few months acquiring Jaguar stuff than I have in the last few years. Granted, much of this had to do with one individual, but I have made transactions in the last month with 6 different people related to Jaguar (and I'm not talking about acquiring Checkered Flag if you know what I mean....) Although I've been playing Jaguar from the beginning, most of my collecting and prototype acquisitions were made within the last few years. Video #8 Posted July 1, 2003 I think the thing with Jaguar is it was never very popular, even Atari fans hardly knew it existed. And sometime, I think 98 or so, Atari announced it to be public domain or something like that and everybody's like "Jaguar? WTF is that?" And the buying frenzy started. Thing is, there's so few games for it, under a hundred, that it's relatively easy to get a complete collection, so every serious collector with cash has everything aside a few protos or something. Never very popular to the "others" may be true, in fact, it's an understatement where the general populous is concerned, but ANY Atari fan definately KNEW of the Jaguar, from the get-go, else they were NOT an Atari fan. I knew about the Jaguar prior to '93 when it was released! If you were an Atari fan and read Atari magazines back then, you knew about the Jaguar, period. It was not only the Holy Grail to Atarians, but Atari's savior and last best hope at the time. If you didn't know about the Jag, you were not an Atari fan, so go play your Ninschmendo or Schmega.
