My modded CX40

I had an old and battered CX40, which was beyond saving and so I decided to mod it by fitting an arcade joystick from eBay. It was a very tight fit inside, with much cutting and bodging, it's not very pretty, especially underneath, but i got there in the end and it works perfectly:

I'll understand if people hate what i've done, but I like it which is the main thing :D

You've rotated the base 180°! Was that in order to fit the mechanics inside it?

I think it might have been, it's pretty tight in there :D

I love this mod.  I never thought an arcade stick would fit.

Have your scores improved with the new control?

They have a little, although I haven't used it on many games so far ;-)

good modification, can you say which arcade lever did you buy exactly? since I want to know the exact orders to see if it is possible to make a 3D printable design

regards

It was the cheapest one I could find on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Red-joystick-8-way-controller-for-arcade-games-new-B2W1/263008133288?epid=1082059207&hash=item3d3c81a0a8:g:IcIAAOSwX61ZKubA

If I had access to a 3D printer and knew what I was doing I could have made it to be perfect, as it is I had to use screws and home made clamps, as well as searching for a smaller microswitch for the fire button :D

Does anyone want to see a picture of the insides?

Looks good, wonder if the base could be implemented with an original CX40 top?

Some years ago I bought some microswitches and all the necesary to replace the board of one of my CX40, but every time I open the joystick when it is not responding, I just clean the contacts and replace the adhesive film. I have to schedule some time to start with the mod.

I bought the arcade joystick last year with the intention of modding it straight away, but life gets in the way and sometimes you just have to not think about things and do them, i'm glad I did this joystick though and if i've inspired others to have a go then all the better ;-)
