I e-mailed someone a link to a topic on the AtariAge forums, and this quite large image came up after I embedded the link and I don't know why and it's quite annoying and I was wondering if it could be stopped in any way?

Can you take a screenshot?  I'm not quite sure what you're describing.

Thanks,

When I e-mail anyone a link to most web sites and I want whatever it is to stay a link, I have to click on the right top corner of the image that pops up and tell it to go away.

Example:

I guess this is going to depend on the email app or website you're using, it's not something I've ever seen.  Can you guys please tell me what email client you're using?

Thanks,

I use Yahoo mail. It automatically puts an image in if you're not in plain text mode.

That's Yahoo just being stupid, it must be grabbing the first image from the page you're linking.  I can't really do anything about that at all.

There are meta tags generated to provide an image when sharing links to AtariAge on other sites..  For forum posts, it'll grab the first image attachment in the thread.  If there isn't an appropriate image, this is used instead:

But I'm guessing Yahoo is doing their own thing and just looking at the page and grabbing whatever they think is an appropriate image, which in your example above happens to be your profile photo.  Not sure if other web clients do this.  Curious what @atari2600land is using.

When posting a link to this thread, I just get a blank rectangle:

It's easy to get rid of, if he's using something similar to Yahoo.

I'd have to research the stupidness Yahoo mail is doing, which I don't have time to do right now.  I assume this did not happen with the previous version of the forum software?  Or did this just start happening recently with Yahoo?

I didn't pay attention to when it started, but it seems like I've been doing the "post link, kill rectangle" dance for more than a year.

Okay, good, then it's likely nothing to do with the recent forum upgrade.  Does it do this on other websites as well?

Yeah, your beef needs to be with Yahoo!, then.  I wonder if there's a setting for their mail client that allows you to disable link embedding like that.  Looking at atariland2600's email, he's also using Yahoo.
