Turns out nobody joins a public club, so my club has one member, me. Of course it could just be that no one is interested in my club and I'm just Billy no-mates! The guide on creating clubs says that for public clubs, "everyone can see the club and its posts, and can participate without joining". So if you want to have some control over who are in the club, I suppose it needs to be of a different kind.
