Clint Thompson #1 Posted July 1, 2003 Hi Guys... well, I finally got my cable in for my SCSI external CD rom drive. Now.... is there anything specific I have to do to get the Falcon to recognise it? It has AHDI 6.05 and see's the internal IDE drive (of course) and says SCSI unit 0 not responding, though it looks like it accesses the CD drive for a second... I'm guessing I need some sort of driver maybe? It's an external APS 4x2x6 CD-RW and well, I'm ready to go now all I need to figure out is how!? Any and all help/advice is very much appreciated!! Thanks, Clint Thompson
Wntermute #2 Posted July 1, 2003 Not sure about the software side, but I'm very experienced with SCSI hardware from owning several Macs.. SCSI 101 - Make sure your chain is terminated at both ends. If there is no internal SCSI drive and no internal termination in the computer, you'll need TWO terminators (one before the drive and one after). Internal termination on a drive counts as a terminator after the drive. - Make sure the ID is unique in the chain and is in the range of 0-6. 7 is reserved for the host adapter (ie. your computer) - Make sure the drive AND the computer are off before making any cabling, termination, or ID changes. This ensures there will not be any attempted drive accesses while changes are made.
[ProToS] #3 Posted July 1, 2003 in fact you have 2 things to do, change the hd driver ( xhdi compatible )and install a cdrom driver you could use cbhd for the hard drive http://home.t-online.de/home/Steffen.Engel/CBHD502.TOS use the english rsc from here http://www.cix.co.uk/~derryck/misc/cbhd502e.zip and install spin/metados driver for cdrom http://www.muenster.de/~reschke/soft_e.html
