Some common questions, answers, issues and resolutions for the Jaguar Game Drive.

The latest firmware for the Jaguar Game Drive will always be available on the Retro HQ product page.

Issue:

The cart red screens when I try and run it.

Resolution:

Remove and reseat the cartridge, this is a symptom of poor cartridge edge connection. If the problem persists, clean the cartridge edge connector.

Issue:

The cart hangs on the RetroHQ logo screen.

Resolution:

If you have a JagLink connected to the rear of your Jaguar, please remove it. The JagGD does not work with the JagLink connected. If you have a CatBox or similar multi-connector device this may also be connecting to the DSP port, you can either place a thin piece of tape over the DSP edge connector and re-attach the device, or remove the device. If you do not have either of these plugged in, see above for poor edge connection.

Issue:

The cart red screens when I boot a game from the game menu.

Resolution:

This can be a bad cartridge edge connection (see above), or if only specific games red screen when booting, this is also a symptom of a bad ROM dump. There any many bad ROM images out there, try a different source.

Issue:

The save game does not work for some games.

Resolution:

This was an issue with the first firmware revision, please update to the latest firmware (see top of post for link).

Question:

What memory cards work with the Jaguar GD?

Answer:

Any micro memory card formatted with FAT16 or FAT32. It’s normal for HC (upto 32gb) cards to ship with FAT32 format, so they will work out of the box. XC (>32gb) cards have not been tested, but should work if formatted to FAT32.

Question:

Does the JagGD run CD images? Where can I get the image converter?

Answer:

There is beta support support for CD games, most work to some degree, but your mileage may vary!

Question:

Does the JagGD work when plugged into the JagCD?

Answer:

No. It seems the same interrupt lines used by the JagCD for the coming CD emulation feature.

Question:

Does the JagGD work with the JagLink / network play?

Answer:

Currently network play is not supported. It is possible to enabled network play and disable save game support with current hardware, or a new revision is required to fix the issue fully. This is to be investigated.
