Gavin1968
Does anyone know of a direct replacement for the interlock switch in the original Atari 800? Mine has been broken for a while and I would love to replace it. Thanks, Gavin
griff3125
What is the Atari 800 interlock switch?
Kyle22
I just put a blob of solder across the two pins of the switch. Quick, simple and doesn't cost anything but an inch of solder.
griff3125
Ah, cartridge door switch? Asking because I have parts laying around but sadly not that.

In-line with (external) main power-switch, and actioned by cartridge-compartment top-door. When the top-door is opened, it releases the auxiliary switch and power-downs the system immediately, for protection. Once you close the door, the system powers-up and resumes (without ever touching the main power switch, on the right-side panel). I swear to God I ordered (and got) one spare, but I can't find the damn switch (although I have full power-board replacement with its own switch installed...) Kyle22
That interlock switch becomes a problem when you use tall carts, or cart stack(s).
Frankie
Part of the Incognito install instructions was how to disable that.

Yes, that is the interlock switch, under the door.

+Stephen
IF you want to, it is easily reversible. Small solder blob across two pins, takes 5 seconds, and the removal is also a 5 second non destructive deal.
Urchlay
Small solder blob across two pins, takes 5 seconds, and the removal is also a 5 second non destructive deal. Hm, been a while since I looked, but aren't the pins close enough together that you could just use a jumper from e.g. an old IDE hard drive? I can understand why the OP doesn't want to do this though. The cart door acting as a power switch was a feature. I remember swapping game carts and never having to touch the main power switch... very early form of "plug & play" I guess.
gelo29
I made this switch 2-pins mod and now the RESET buton doesn't work (no response at all). Is it fault of that interlock switch mod I made or my RESET botton just died? Strange thing...
