+Lathe26 #26 Posted September 5, 2019 Mine arrived today! The Blix has the same game-play as before but this time it has better music and it has an animation each time you clear columns. I like this improved version. Chocolate Mine is a fun puzzle game. The one thing it took me a minute or so was what each of the radar numbers on the left and right meant (i.e. why several numbers instead of just 1 radar distance to the nearest jawbreaker). It's simply that each number is the distance to an individual jawbreaker (i.e. if the top two numbers are "1", then you are next to those two specific jawbreakers), which seems almost obvious in retrospect. 😜 My first game got to 3300 or so. Is this the first game sealed INSIDE the box?
Zendocon #27 Posted September 5, 2019 I'm glad you're enjoying it. 3300 is an impressive score for your first play on Chocolate Mine. Usually I just get into the 1-2000 range myself.
+Lathe26 #28 Posted September 5, 2019 Just curious if Chocolate Mine has a maximum level, either as an end-screen or simply that the difficulty plateaus. Looks like there is room for either 22 or 24 jawbreakers in the radar sections on the left and right side of the screen.
Zendocon #29 Posted September 5, 2019 There are 40 Shards of the One True Signature Piece to find. When you get to the last two, there will be the maximum of 24 Jawbreakers to deal with. Don't worry; I did playtest it until the end. I also built a Pathfinder feature that re-randomizes the Jawbreakers' positions if there is no way to reach a Shard. Additionally, I prevent Jawbreakers from being placed next to your starting position in each room. 3

Some programmers would just let the jawbreakers be placed completely randomly. I appreciate the effort paid to so that every level is theoretically winnable. Zendocon #31 Posted September 5, 2019 Thank you. The challenge of developing strategy/puzzle games tends to not be the implementation so much as the design details. I recall developing SameGame and putting a cap on the number of each shape, just so the score couldn't reach the 5-figure range. I had to go through several scoring formulas to find something that would ensure the score capped at 4 figures.

+intellivotion #35 Posted September 14, 2019 Mine arrived some days ago. I mean, not only Chocolate Mine but also Blix. Thanks to both Michael's for this

The Jawbreakers are randomly placed each time. Every two rooms, the difficulty ramps up by having one more Jawbreaker than before.
the1hatman #37 Posted September 15, 2019 I've made 4 attempts at ordering via the link on the 1st post here but have yet to receive a response. Would LOVE to finally have a copy of Blix so I welcome any help in getting one.

First Spear #39 Posted September 15, 2019 OK, it is time for me to pollute this thread. Can a DRM ROM be made available for LTO Flash owners?

Zendocon #41 Posted September 16, 2019 I haven't discussed releasing a DRM ROM with Mike Thomasson, so I'll have to find out what he thinks of the idea.

Looking forward to playing both games!

Zendocon #44 Posted September 18, 2019 That is a very impressive score! Methinks this should be in next season's High Scores tourney.

Sinjinhawke #49 Posted October 26, 2019 Two purchases I tried to make didn’t pan out so I got a couple bucks I didn’t have before. Might have to visit GoodDealGames. Or should I wait for the Black Friday deals. 🤔 😉
