Retro_Game_Lover96 #1 Posted August 29, 2019 Hi, I am having troubles to get my Atari console working, so does anyone help me get it fixed? I hooked up my console with an S-Video via the RGB board. The console powers on fine, but the screen is black with some green stuff on it. I just assumed it was some bad chips, I tried to replace and swap the chips from the good Atari console, but nothing happens.
ChildOfCv #2 Posted August 29, 2019 Do you really mean you're hooking this thing to the S-Video input on the TV? Because the RGB mod outputs red, blue, green, and sync on separate connections. You'd normally hook them to a VGA monitor or SCART connector. If you want S-Video input, you would need a composite/svideo mod such as the UAV.

Looks like the board he is using has Y/C connections on it near the center top there. @Retro_Game_Lover96 is that Tim's RGB board? I'm not familiar with it, but does it require a solder jump or anything to actually use the s-video/rgb? Just looked at Tim's site on this. Did you make sure to have JP1 and JP3 both open? Looks like Tim advises that for NTSC consoles and it looks like you have JP3 closed in your pic? Edited August 29, 2019 by -^Cro§Bow^-

It's weird how much that looks like the sync pulse trace on an oscilloscope, even though a TV doesn't work like that. But could it be that the Y and C are backwards then? Is this one of those games that typically shows a black screen until you hit reset?

I've not installed this kit so was just trying to look for anything that stood out based on the pics you did provide. I assume you've reached out to Tim to ask about it? Also can you attach some higher resolution or pics that show the connections easier for us to get a better view?
Retro_Game_Lover96 #8 Posted August 30, 2019 I don’t know why I got that issue.

+-^CrossBow^- #11 Posted August 31, 2019 Can't be sure but it looks like the Red output might be shorting against that ground pad right next to it? Just the way it looks perhaps? To isolate anything else, try removing the all the wiring minus the Y,C, and ground for just the s-video. Might even try using that other unused ground pad on the upper left of the RGB board for just the s-video.

ChildOfCv #14 Posted September 1, 2019 The signal grounds on the S-video plug are connected together with that orange wire, but I don't see any other connection. The ground wire should be connected to them too. By the way, can you confirm that it works in its original configuration?

I’ve done that on my Atari 5200 UAV S-Video, and it looked amazing while it is plugged into the Framemeister.
ChildOfCv #16 Posted September 1, 2019 If you don't do things by the spec, don't expect them to work everywhere. Anyway, that still doesn't answer the question of whether or not it works in its original configuration.
+-^CrossBow^- #17 Posted September 2, 2019 Looking as the pic of the connector...he does have the orange wire connecting both s-video signals grounds. But the actual ground is only connected to the s-video connector shield on the top? You need to ignore running a ground to the shield and instead run it to one end of the grounds you have the orange wire connected to that way both signal grounds for luma and chroma will have a ground connection. Retro_Game_Lover96 #18 Posted November 29, 2019 What if I turn this console into an Atari retropie console?
