Indy 500 was always one of my favorite 2 player games. I especially love Ice Racing.

Not only is it great fun to play, but aren't those Driving controllers equally as cool as the game? I think Ice Race is the best test of skill on the game, plus its just plain fun sliding around corners :)

I play that one with my kids. One is nine, the other five. It's funny...whenever I play with/against them on our xbox/snes/ps1/dreamcast...Im kind and let them win or get the most points "yaaaayyy....I beat you daddy"

Indy 500...I dont give a crap. I just try to trash them.

I figure, they'll adjust :D

Sad thing is....I lose about as often as I win.

Damn brats. :x

Ice Racing rocks. If all Indy 500 included was Ice Racing, it would still be worth the price of the cart and controllers.

When I picked up the Atari many years ago in the 80's from a yard sale. I was blessed. It came with indy 500 and driving paddles. That did lead me to the question of what else the driving paddles was used on. Basicly Nothing. I guess at one time they had great plans for the driving and sport paddles.

I remember trying the Driving Controller with Combat in an attempt to figure out how it works. It was only three years ago that I learned about Quadrature Signaling .. and plugged the Driving Contoller into the Vectrex that I figured out how it worked! Plus I took one of the DC switches totally apart and looked at the swirling contacts inside. Atari never had any further plans for this controller as a pair was only available as pack-in items with the Indy 500 (Sears Race) cart. The reason they are plentiful is that this game/controller set was available from the beginning of the VCS/2600 in 1977 and lots of people had to have this must have cart then.

Atari did have greater plans for the paddles because they were available for purchase separately and many paddle carts were made.

i remember getting this game as a kid, i played it for hours, the ice racing rocked. I just wished it had larger tracks. I have a PC game that is almost a direct spin off from it. mini car racing.

:D
