+atari2600land
It keeps saying there was a server error on my phone. It's a non-iPhone-type one, I don't know what it's called. I used to be able to log on just fine, and now I can log on to other sites on it, just not this one.
Albert
How old is the phone? My guess is it cannot connect to the site using https. Can you login to other sites running https? ..Al
+atari2600land
It's a couple years old. I can log on to other https sites (I tried this site). It says there was a network error when I try to go on AtariAge though.
Albert
Is it just the forum or the entire site (say, if you go directly to https://atariage.com) that's not working? It's possible the browser on the phone does not support the cipher suite reported by the server. Without more information about the phone/OS/browser version you're using, I can't really speculate more as to what would cause the phone to fail to connect to AtariAge. ..Al
+atari2600land
Yes, https://atariage.com gives me that error. It's a Samsung phone and I'm using the browser that came installed with it.

Albert
Wow, I'm shocked it doesn't even support TLS 1.1. This is why you cannot connect. Some stricter sites won't even support TLS 1.1 (and the new AtariAge server didn't support it when it was switched online). TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are fairly old at this point. Are there browser settings where you can make adjustments in this area? Can you install a newer or alternate browser? I assume it's using the built-in Chrome browser. Outside of getting another phone, the only ways I see you getting around this are: - Update the Android OS to something newer, if possible. - Update the web browser, if possible. - Install an alternate browser that will work on Android 4.4.2. - Find the browser settings to see what kind of security options there are and if you can enable TLS 1.1 and/or 1.2. Could also be an OS-related option (I've never used an Android phone, so I cannot offer any specific help in this area). I'm guessing you won't be able to find anything here, though. ..Al

Albert
It's still reporting the same protocol support? That's too bad. Is it possible to update the browser at all? Or use another browser? ..Al

Albert
2 minutes ago, Albert said: It's tied to the browser. Edit: I'm guessing with Android that Chrome is tied somewhat closely to the operating system, and that you cannot upgrade Chrome independently. But since you can install third-party browsers, the likelihood that they are still being updated to support older versions of Android is high, so you're able to install what's basically a much newer browser than the browser that shipped with the phone. I'm still shocked that for whatever reason the built-in browser doesn't even support TLS 1.1, that seems very strange to me. ..Al
