I've officially given up on RGVC :6 (and Introduction)

Recommended Posts

Hey, some may know me as Geoff Voigt, the attempted FAQ master of RGVC and the #1 source of free Beer at CGE 2000 and 2001. I've also tried to run SC3, the Southern California Classic Collectors gaming group.

It's hard for me to say it, rec.games.video.classic is partially responsible for me getting into Classic Gaming, but I just can't stand it anymore. I need... (what's that word again...oh yeah) COHERENT gaming discussion. I've ben lurking as a guest for several months now, but all the cacophony just got to me. Getting out of RGVC is like putting a loved relative in a rest home because he or she just rallies on too much about how the Fiesta Monkeys are taking over the world or thier new hobby is boiling pigeons. It tears your heart out, but it's the best thing to do.

Anyway, get used to me, I'm new to AA but not the Classic Gaming scene, and no longer a lurker. Bye!

Why quit one for the other? Several of us still check out R.G.V.C. daily (and chat in #rgvc). As well as hang on the classic gaming message boards like this fine one as well as others like digitpress.com. It's all good. And with everything being so easy to access.. I often have each of them up on my screen at once :)

But of course... welcome aboard ;)

Geoff, welcome to AtariAge. I'm sure you'll recognize my handle since I've been signing all my posts on RGVC with (MMF) or (MegaManFan) at the end. Wish I had met you at the CGE in 2000 or 2001, I was only there in 2002 but I did get to meet Jerry Jessop (who you'll be glad to know is also a member of these boards) and a few others. 98% of the people here are great, but just be warned in advance there are a FEW trolls on here too - you'll figure out who soon enough, and the "ignore" feature really comes in handy. :D See you around!

Hey Geoff!

It's good to see you again. I'd been wondering what happened to you after the SC3 meetings fizzled out. I thought you might be drying out in a rehab center somewhere, after OD'ing on wasabi-coated animal cookies.

I'd welcome you further, but right now those damned Fiesta Monkeys are trying to make off with my boiled pigeon stew. Gotta run!

Ben

Hi Geoff,

So have things picked up? That was a pretty powerful article you wrote in the Dec issue at the tomheroes site.

Aaaah, I too completely gave up on RGVC a while ago. Too many conversations were becoming little more than pooh-slinging matches. Most of the older regular posters that I enjoyed had drifted away (luckily many now hang around these parts) and it seemed as if the lunatics had finally taken over the asylum, so to speak. I don't know if it's any better now but I've gotten out of the habit of checking. Plus, my new ISP's news server is somewhat lacking in completeness, so the point's kinda moot anyway. Nice to see you too are now slumming ‘round these parts, Geoff.

Nice to know people read it! I still belive that there need to be a bit more 'Forest for the Trees' in this hobby, but I have to admit that it's the people I've met that've brought me back.

Wow, our little 'ole AtariAge seems to be quickly becoming one of the "places to be" in the classic gaming world!

This is actually the only classic gaming board I ever visit. Newsgroups seem so impersonal, IRC is a joke, and everyone around here seems to know enough that I never need to look elsewhere.

Welcome aboard :)

nice to see you here! i'm also at my last gasp on RGVC, too much cross posting and DR.SMITH666. i hate to see it go downhill like it has, i made all of my early trades and new england group connections from there. i still think it reaches a huge audience, responses have bourne this theory out many times. the trouble is the posters, its just not a happy place to be.

i hope you'll enjoy your stay here, this is where classic gaming lives and thrives.

Hey Geoff,

Nice to see you here. Are you back into classic gaming?

Are you and the SC3 folks coming to CGE this year. We need to get a party going...... It's not the same without you.

GEOFF! I was wondering where you dropped off to! Glad to see you're still a-postin'. Not to hijack ya or anything, but be sure to also drop by Digital Press and say "Hey" to the gang there too! Are you planning on visiting AGE, CGE, or any other meetinging ending with "GE?" :D

Yeah, it would be cool to meet you if you're going to be in Austin for the con, but I suppose if you hadn't already gotten a pass it would be too late now. :(

I guess I should say publicly what I've said in PM's several times:

If I get a job soon, I'm going to CGE. If I'm coming to CGE, I plan on doing the party again. I loved hosting that thing as much as everyone did coming.

Last year the AA guys themselves were gracious enough to pick up where I left off, and I'd like to reciprocate the favor.

Information will be forthcoming if I get a job.

But it's nice to see that I was missed that much. Thanks guys! :D
