Sculpture ideas relating to Adventure

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm in Sculpture for the Summer Quarter, and I have to do an artwork relating to a Treasure map... what better thing to do than some sculpture based on Adventure? Part of what I want to do is the castle, the square/hero, and, of course, a Deathduck. any ideas on what materials to use? Thought of styrofoam, but it doesn't have a smooth surface. Paperboard is smooth, but real light.

The treasure map part is easy; just put some leather or canvas in between the tube and the front section of several TV cases (about 8), re-screwed back together, with maps drawn or etched into them. The centerpice is none other that a functioning heavy sixer and TV with Adventure playing.

BTW: anyone got a CIB/SW'ed Adventure for trade or sale? It'd finish off this artwork nicley.

If you can get your hands on some of the unsulation type of foam, it might work pretty well. The kind I saw used most often when I took sculpture was light blue. It carves nicely and you can get it pretty smooth. You can also prime it and sand it if you're careful. Be careful about what kind of paint or glue you use though, test it first.

You could also use illustration board, it comes in several thicknesses. You can score it on one side and bend it to make curves or sharp angles. Use something like 5-minute epoxy and glue it all together then use some light sandpaper to clean up any rough edges, spray paint and you're done. It can be time consuming to make it look nice, but you can create some really cool 3-dimensional stuff this way.

Good luck on your project.

My wife just did a wall hanging made out of styrofoam and joint compound. Looks great, but it was a pain in the butt to hang.

Here's something silly I did a while back with clay..

Hehe. :) That remind me: my friend and I used to actually play live-action Adventure when we were kids. We made keys and other items out of construction paper.
