miker
Hi Guys! I've purchased Atari Lynx II recently. Everything works (except scrren which I want to mod) but battery cover is missing. I know that there are many places to get missing part (original or substitute) but has anybody acces to STL file of it? I ask because I have (limited) access to 3D printers. Thanks in advance. miker

power
considering how tight the back is i'd suggest the offer above, i can't see a 3d print version surviving.
Igor
I can try and put one together next week but as @power noted it will not survive constant removal if you plan to use batteries. However if you just want a cover, a 3D printed one can work well...especially once this mod is available... https://atarigamer.com/pages/unstable-warpfield-lipo-battery-addon-board-for-atari-lynx

power
on mine the back fits so tight, when removing it i reckon a 3d print one would fail immediately.
+karri
If you print it with 80% infill instead of some 15% default you should be good with it.
Igor
Those tabs that hold it in place would be the weak point. Maybe if it was printed with flexible PLA it could work better.
+karri
ABS is also flexible compared to PLA.
Igor
So I've put this together today. Had to print close to 10 prototypes before settling on a design. It actually feels very solid, printed in PLA. I've might do a few more tweaks and will upload the STL in the next few days. How cool does the colour blend look though? ? 3
bobmoo79
that looks nice. the only 3d printed things I've seen come out of my mate's 3d printer has that spaghetti effect where you can see the filament in the finished product. yours looks nice and smooth! random question: there used to be a website where you could upload an stl and get quotes from people who owned a printer and would sell you a print. any idea what that site was? I wanted to use it a few months ago. the sites I found were all corporate and charged far too much. Fadest
On Thingiverse, you can find .STL models and order a 3D print via App, depending on wishes of author. I use Treastock to order (via Thingiverse or direct) because they allow to order from France but there is also Print a Thing, NinjaPrototype... power
that actually looks pretty good, colour me impressed. be intersting to see how durable it is. did you put something on the door to hold the batteries?
Igor
Thingiverse is probably the way to go, that's where this STL will end up. You can also leave a tip to the author, which is a nice encouragement. I don't use batteries so didn't try to put anything there, however some foam should do the trick. power
once you've done a mcwill or benvenn, combined with some eneloop or similar batteries the lynx is super viable as a portable.

I'd seen some excellent results in super-firm parts even using chopped carbon fiber (CF in a single spool) and continues carbon fiber (requires 2 simultaneous spools) is crazy strong. The first brand I had seen offering that was markforfged, but I think there are others now.
Igor
It should, with the right nozzle. CF is really bad for shredding brass nozzles, but I do have some steel ones in the mail.

I'd say the Lynx Battery Cover is probably even in more demand than the 5200's storage bin flip door...
Igor
Yeah I noticed! Still haven't had the time to perfect it (we are in the middle of moving house). I have printed a couple of copies for various people to test out though. Feedback so far is good.
Terop
Here's my version of the Lynx battery cover: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3926250/
Igor
We've had a batch of Lynx 2 battery doors injection moulded, they are perfectly colour matched to the Lynx. The only difference is the foam inside the white, not black. https://k-retro.com/atari-lynx-replacement-parts/339-replacement-battery-door-for-atari-lynx-model-2-2.html
