3D printed adapter to mount VBXE DB9 for 130XE

Recommended Posts

I didn't have access / patience to use a 8 pin mini din jack for my 130XE's VBXE installation... so I went with DB9.. But I also didn't have the heart to cut into the case...

So I printed this little snap in adapter:

rgbplug.stl

I printed it in this upright position (with support on in the slicer) so that the round lip can flex a little on its strong axis.

Thread your DB9 leads through the hole, then insert the tongue/flat end in first, and snap the round end in.

Looks a good solution for those wanting not to hack their case.

The main issue I see though is that you'd need to have the adaptor in place before soldering the wires to the monitor plug.

Although if you did a modular install with removable wiring to the VBXE and motherboard (that's what I did) then you could get away with not needing to do that.

This whole thing is _ if _ using a DB9 port.

I soldered leads to the DB9 connector first. The leads all have individual Dupont connectors.

You're going to need to solder to the DB9 before attaching directly to a cut up case anyway. That's just the nature of a DB9, generally.
