Indeed, the disk access is quite fast considering the hexbus limitations. I also tried on my 99/8 and 99/5 computers.  My worry is especially about graphic performances, display needs fast access to be able to do interesting things.

Something like how original X was implemented might be doable.  Basically, graphics elements are sent once only (or as needed) to the displaying device, then the system just makes high level calls to do screen draws.


Don't know how well that would play with the already existing color display device...
