Disabling the interlock on 400/800 machines?

Is there a consensus on this yea or nay?

I'm going to be installing tf_hh's 48K RAM upgrade on my 400 tomorrow and plan on using an Ultimate Cart with it to play games, so it seems reasonable to me to disable the interlock.  Just wanted to see what others think about this before I do it.

The effect is you end up with the same scenario that XL/XE owners have.  The OS on those even caters for cart hotswaps - not that I would encourage doing it, I occasionally did so but mainly for copying them.

You should be able to do it without modifying the machine, just something to keep the actuating lever down without interfering with the overall mechanism.

I did this on my 800, assuming the 400 uses the same mechanism, when the lid is closed an arm pushes two contact plates together to complete the circuit. I just used a small zip-tie to hold them together instead. No modification to the computer was needed.

I solder across the switch, works fine. :-)
