Nintendo Remote Controllers are horrible.

Recommended Posts

I found these at the goodwill, in their box, and in mint condition. From a collecting standpoint it is like gold.

But from a gameplay standpoint, these things are awful.

I would consider myself to be an absolute expert at Super Mario Brothers 1 for NES...but these controllers always found some way to kill me. I even tried to predict when I would probably jump, and press the jump button a good .5 seconds from that spot, but I still would miss the jump, or fall in a hole.

I played the same game with the stock controllers, and my moves were wonderfully exact, and I didn't miss a single jump anywhere.

My question is...how in the world did Aklaim let this pile of shit hit the store shelves? Didn't someone from the company play test these things? I can't think of a single game where you could survive...except maybe Pac-Man for NES, because you never have to use the non-responsive buttons.

And that stupid advertising art on the back of the remote controller box with that kid playing NES with Rambo sitting there. He must be getting a kick out of dying 100 times in a row.

So in the end it is cool technology, and a cool idea, but the product is awful. What's a stronger word than awful? I can't think of one.

But these compliment my collecting very very nicely. So I'm not gonna let them go or anything.

Apparently, you haven't met our good friend Acclaim. These are the same people who wanted to advertise on tombstones, pay someone to name their child Turok, and wants to paint birds at a tennis tournament to advertise Virtua Tennis.

Acclaim is quite literally one of the worst video game companies out there.

Acclaim then is what MadCatz is now.

Manufacturer of shitty accessories that don't work right.

I bought a pair of these controllers CIB with foam off eBay for $15 as a novelty. That's all they are, novelty. I went to the trouble of hooking everything up exactly ONE time, realizing how crappy SMB3 was with the horrid lag time, and quickly dissasembled everything and put it all back in the box.

I found a pair of these controllers at a Goodwill a few months ago.

The battery cases are missing and the controllers have never been tried out by me.

I dunno. They're probably not worth using.

Judging by this thread...I assume that.

I also have this controller which I got with all the pieces from a thrift for $2. If you think using the Acclaim controller is hard, then you've got to try using the Power Glove with Mike-Tyson's Punch Out, or any game for that matter. Just horrid...

Has anyone tried using the NES Uforce controller yet? I've been itching to pick one of those up just for the collectible side of the NES. 8)

I had a chance to get a UForce once.

I didn't.

Yeah, for all the crap we're talking about these accessories...it does not do anything for preventing me from wanting these things for collecting.

I never did know that about the Power Gloves. Wouldn't it have been cool if they worked better than shit? I love Mike Tyson's Punchout...and who wouldn't want to try the game with gloves. I'll bet the response time is worse than terrible.

Oh NES, why do you mock me from the grave, or something?

You probably wouldn't believe this, but it has nothing to do with bad response times (in my experience so far). The X/Y/Z sensors go off whenever you move your fingers too much (moving your fingers equals pushing A,B, Up, Down, etc.), and it's just a matter of keeping your hand still so the sensors don't go crazy. Eg; in MTPO, while I move my index finger, my middle finger also moves a bit resulting in say, blocking when I want to punch my opponent. It might work a little bit better in maybe platform games but I have yet to try any other games besides MTPO. I wanna pick up the Uforce controller sometime and test that bad-boy out! It looks pretty neat. 8)
