Are the two Battlefront games worth it?

Recommended Posts

Both of the original Xbox Battlefront games are backwards compatible with both the 360 and Xbox One, so there's that...

I can't speak for the 2nd one, but I bought the first one a year or two ago on sale along with all the DLC for like $5 USD. For that, it's worth it. Not many people play it online anymore, and the way the DLC maps are splintered from the base game you'll likely never use them.

I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the original games, but for a fiver I couldn't argue against it. Too many game types that nobody plays, gameplay is too grindy, vehicles are few and far between compared to the originals.

Personally I like both.   Battlefront 2's launch issues have been way overblown.   Basically the big controversy was the game had planned to have paid loot boxes instead of paid DLC like the first,  but as soon as this became controversial, Disney nixed the plan the day the game released,   so the game never really had paid loot boxes.  The other controversy was how hard it was to unlock things in the beta, but again that was changed at the game's lanch.

But I've never played the original BFII, but I know people hold it in high regard.   Sounds like it had features the new BF games don't

But the new BF both look amazing,  they have a variety of game modes.  BFII has more single player options than BFI, and you can often get them on sale for good prices.

The new EA games are gorgeous and sound great too. They go on sale a lot so don't pay full price. I think BF2 is 85% right now with Gold. They're worth a look, especially if you like that style of game. I think they're super boring except for the few spaceship missions, but I don't find the infantry death match game play compelling -- probably because I suck at it.

The older games are the same kind of thing but they're faster and more varied.

I played the first one for a few weeks.  I only bought it to play with a brother and nephew.  For whatever reason, his son's game got tagged with an age restriction and I don't think they ever could get it lifted.   I prefer doing multiplayer games with at least one person I know so I didn't keep playing.

If memory serves, it's best to play in third-person view.

The graphics were gorgeous.  It was a lot of fun to be on Hoth either attacking or escorting an AT-AT.   By grabbing the right powerup, one could even pilot the AT-AT itself as a bit of a rails shooter.  Becoming a hero (Vader, Chewie, Luke, etc) was interesting but always seemed far too short compared to what it seemed like with other players.
