Got the game today, but I was just able to start it a bit, not really getting how to play it. It really looks amazing, many nice graphics and even animated fire!

It would have been a lot easier and cheaper in the end if the package had been declared correctly in the first place, as then it would have gone through customs and I could have paid the 15.03 EUR when the postman delivered the item at my door.
 

The item itself arrived very well packaged and I look forward to trying it out this evening.

This story is just to suggest to other people or sellers to declare the items they ship overseas correctly and attach the invoice outside. Customs-office have smartened up in the last few years (at least here in Germany) and will not accept the standard $20 or $10 declarations anymore. In the end this just leads to complications in getting the ordered items. I'll gladly pay the import VAT instead of driving around for an hour and sitting at the customs office for another 30 minutes

Ok, in the future, people from Germany are going to have to instruct me what to declare or I will go with my standard 'materials' cost, which was just trying to be kind. Or, I can just put 'gift' on it. I don't do printed labels and it is coming from a person, not a company, so I don't know what to say except that I would have had a lot more people complain if I had put a $70 US value on the package.

The NEW reserve/ordering policy of Defender of the Crown for Intellivision

Elektronite is currently building 125 copies of the game for distribution via mail order from Thailand. There are more people that want the game than 125 at the moment.

Therefore, we have to follow the following procedures to make the system as fair as possible, and to get the game in the hands of as many people as possible and to avoid hard feelings.

Keep in mind, that if you miss out on this round of copies, there WILL be more made available in the future, but probably not for a few months at least. So, if you want to play the game this Christmas, you'll need to get on this round.

We will begin orders on November 15th, 2019 at 12pm BANGKOK TIME (GMT +7)

Here is how you order:

At 12pm Bangkok time, (GMT + 7) (NOT BEFORE!!), on November 15th, 2019, send an email to

and request a copy.

Put "DEFENDER OF THE CROWN ORDER" in the title

Within 24 hours, you will get a reply IF you have a copy reserved.

The confirmation email will contain information on how to pay via PayPal.

The cost of the game will be $70 US + $18 US (Shipping + PayPal Fees) = $88 US final cost.

Please NOTE!:

- There is 1 copy per person/PayPal account.

- There is no combining this order with other items. We will not accept requests to combine shipments with other copies going to other people.

- IF YOU SEND AN EMAIL BEFORE THE official TIME, it will be deleted/ignored.

- We will not accept message requests of any type for reservations of the game. You must email.

- We will have requests open until November 30th, 2019 at which time any unsold games will be allowed to be purchased by anyone who wants a copy in any numbers.

- We will be sending via registered mail if possible

I noticed however that two times that in the first game after turning on the Intellivision, it threw me back to the title screen when I did an action (like the machine just reset). First this happened on my first joust after I had the choose between Territory oder Leadership, the second time just when I wanted to move my army. I have had only these two instances of the game resetting yet.

 

Another thing I noticed, when a castle of mine was besieged after I won the battle, it immediately showed the picture of the castle again and threw me into another battle for the castle (as if another lord had the same idea), but this second fight is without background-music then.

 

Not sure if both the throwback to the title-screen and the repearing castle-battles are bugs or just my machine acting quirky. I thought I left the behaviour here in the forum to see if others have these happen as well.

This sounds like a faulty Intellivision. No bugs like that were found during extensive testing over a long period of time. Try a different machine.

There are 15 copies remaining. On December 1, 2019 (12:01am Bangkok time) I will release all remaining copies to be purchased in any numbers (ie two or three copies in one purchase). 

 

We will be making 100 more copies and expect them to be available in March 2020. We should have our website back up and be able to do automated orders by then as well. Please understand that we are doing the best we can at the moment due to changes in our distribution.

This was not meant as criticism, just a heads-up that german customs seems to have smartened up against lower declarations because of all the falsely declaring sellers from China. The person in line after me received a gift-package from overseas and even from her they wanted some sort of proof of the item's worth as otherwise they would just have to look up the new-prices on the internet to calculate customs fees. Smoothest way through customs seems to be to include the invoice in a bag on the outside or for sales from private people a prinout of the Ebay-auction or something similar. I can understand them looking more closely now with all the taxes that are being cheated by mostly Chinese sellers who just under-declare everything.

Don't really have a second one at hand, but I was afraid it could be something like that. The only other game with strange behaviour on this machine is SNAFU which has some colors looking wrong. All the other games work fine as far as I can tell, including D2K and such. Either way the behaviour with DotC is hard to reproduce. I will just write 'gift' on German shipments in the future. I'm not set up to print out invoices and such.

I am from Germany and here is my point of view: I also had to go to the customs, but thats the deal I accept when I import stuff. It doesnt matter what you write on the label, sometimes you have to go to the office and proof your purchase. If you can not handle that there are two options: Quit importing stuff, oder paying DHL to do the paperwork for you. Second option means a bit delay and extra costs, but it spares you time and the way to the office.

 

So I would prefer if nothing get changed, because its not worth to put thoughts into a random controlling system.

I received mine on Saturday. It's an excellent game! This may be the best version of Defender of the Crown with respect to gameplay and balance. I love the integration of knights and catapults into the battles, and the inclusion of local resistance to conquest. My housemate and I were talking about how hard to believe it is an Intellivision while playing. I'm curious how large the rom is? Certainly this is too big to have been possible in the classic days.
