Atari External Gotek Floppy Cable??

This pinout is slightly different from TGB1718's table.  The pin 5 is going to pin 12 instead (TGB1718 is going to pin 14).  I've done TGB1718's version myself and I'm having some problems.  Before I cut and splice and solder, can you verify which is the correct way?  Is your external Gotek working with pin 5 on the circular connector going to pin 12 on the rectangular one?

I now have a working cable. I can map out all PINs for you later today after work or this weekend (this really needs to be on the web [I'll probably upload it on arcive.org too]).

Just hold off for a little and I'll try to get that info for you.

Ok, it looks like your cable IS different from TGB1718's version.  The drive select pins are switched so that:

TGB1718:

5 Drive 0 select >>>   14

6 Drive 1 select >>>   12

zezba9000:

5 Drive 0 select >>>   12

6 Drive 1 select >>>   14

I also notice that in your previous photo, your pin 6 was not connected, and in this version it is.  Was that the change that solved your problems?

My cable matches TGB1718's version.  I will modify mine to match your version and report if this solves my problem.

My drive is now operational.  However, I'm not 100% sure if swapping those lines is what made it work.  After I swapped the wires, I was getting the same result as I previously was.  I was able to open the drive contents, but the contents looked like garbage files and folders.

So I loaded the special logging firmware to debug further.  It was loading the autoboot.hfe as its image.  For some reason, I couldn't switch away from this drive image using the front panel buttons.  So I renamed that file so it wouldn't be able to find it.  Then it was not able to find any disk images.  I switched to indexed mode in the FF.CFG to help it out.  I renamed a couple files to match the naming scheme of DSKA0000 and it started finding the files.  I then tried native mode, and it worked just fine.  I guess it's because I'm not able to run the autoboot program for HxC compatibility mode to set up my drive slots.  And I don't think I can run it as a normal program - it needs to be autoboot which I can't do from drive B.  I guess it was just a matter of learning how the software work.

Oh and the jumper on the FDD-UDD U144K was not right - it needs to be on the J1 jumper and not the J2 jumper.

I bought that cable new (I didn't make it). That cable was probably based off an official one that are impossible to find.

Atari ST uses FAT12 I think while your files may be using FAT16 (which only works with ROM upgrades or newer versions)? Maybe I could send what test files I have on my USB that work with my 520ST.
