TGB1718
I just pulled my 800 out to test a few things, I normally use my 130XE with U1M+Side2. I didn't realise before how bad the picture is compared to the 130, I'm using the monitor jack, not RF. Everything is ok, just not as sharp. Is there a reasonably cheap way to improve the quality or do I need to do some sort of Video upgrade.
+DrVenkman
If you’re connected via composite, have you tried S-video (chroma/luma)?

TGB1718
Many thanks for the info, I just did a quick look in my 'cave' as I know I have all sorts of leads from old game consoles etc. and found a SCART to S-Video with left/right audio. So it looks like all I need to get is a 5 pin DIN, hack off the SCART, attach the 5 pin DIN and I'm sorted, thanks again.

Have a look at @tf_hh 's SCCC (Super Color CPU Card), available here. I have some of these devices in my 400 and 800's and they're giving me a nice and crispy picture I've never seen before on these old babys.
Sugarland
Another idea is to check the electrolytic capacitors. Are they starting to bulge or leak?

Can't hardly say anything about PAL / SCART, but here's STOCK (NTSC) from 800 (photos don't capture the actual / final quality perceived to the naked eye, unfortunately): The overall BEST s-video cable you will find seems to be at Lotharek's shop. Check it out.
xrbrevin
the 800 has the best display as standard, compared to all unmodified A8s

Might be a good idea, I've not powered this up much over the years, I did all the cap's in my 1050's, but was still mainly using my 130XE.
shoestring
The stock video output should be miles better than the one produced by a 130xe.

Thanks again for the info, hacked off the SCART connector, bought a couple of 5 Pin DIN plugs for £2.49. What a difference, had to turn brightness down a load and adjust contrast, but nice sharp picture now.
