oo7
The Atari 8-bit part of me was on hold for a long time and some stuff might be a bit off in my memory. Atari Basic. THere is Rev A B and C I believe. Im having trouble finding documents on which version comes from where. Rev A I believe is the Cart for A400/A800 Rev B I believe was XL and C I believe was silver label carts and later XE. Am I correct? Anyone know anywhere this may be documented? oo7
ok guys thanks for all the nice answers. so I'll consider rev a to be Atari 400 800 1200 xl cart, rev b to be 600xl and 800xl. rev c to be Atari xe and xegs and possibly some late model xls. so if i decided to start playing with atari basic in altirra im probably best off using C
adam242
Definitely don't want revision B. Has a fatal lock-up bug (as well as others). The bane of my early teen years with my 600XL.
Rybags
For emulation there's no practical value in A or B other than recreating the annoying bugs or testing your own programs for them.
oo7
Thanks guys. My true reasons for asking are two. First off I wanna document so I dont forget again, I usually document stuff like this but have let "my atari files" get outta control And second I plan to be dabbling in Atari basic after a very very very long break (only done that on real hardware) and assumed I wanted to use rev c but now Im sure. When I was a kid and my parents got me my first computer Atari 600xl my dad and I use to use basic alot and did alot of cool things. I now have a son he is still very young but as he grows I want to get him started with a simple fun patch and I have decided Atari Basic is going to be it. In my sons case we will be using a windows 10 laptop running altirra but should still be good. thanks again On a side note we will start simple referencing Inside Atari BASIC (1983)(Reston Publishing Company) Im doing this prematurely as he is still a toddler but Im sure we will be doing this. Unless he hates it lol.
+Nezgar
Even Rev. A had bugs that could lockup the computer. Check out this previous topic that covers all known bugs in awesome detail:
