I’m partial to the original B&W Galaga/Galaxian cart for GameBoy.

Galaga '90 for the Turbo Graphix 16 may not be arcade perfect, but it is one heck of a great game! It makes the NES version look like it's standing still.

Is Galaga '90 the best arcade port of Galaga? Beats me. Frankly, nothing beats the original, coin-op arcade version. Good thing I picked one up at a thrift store for $25 a few years ago. :D

It's just to easy to play the original Galaga on Mame which is easily the best, but Galaga '90 on the TG would probably be my favorite console version.

Galaga 88/90 aint Galaga.. it's Galaga 88/90! ;)

hmmm... aside from the obvious ports of the arcade game via emulators like Namco Collection etc. on the more powerful consoles or via mame, I think the NES version of Galaga is the best translation around (in comparison to others like the MSX, 7800 versions, etc.). And the best way to play it is on the Gameboy advance using PocketNES! :D

The NES version is pretty good. The 7800 version sadly, is pretty bad. Best version ever is probably from Namco Museum for PS2.

Am I the ONLY one who likes the 7800 version? I play it all the time!

The 7800 port is a great game in its own right, but its not as arcade exact as some of the ports for other consoles.

That said its still my favorite ;p

My biggest problem with the 7800 version is that it's too damn easy. Seriously. I like a Galaga that can kick my ass as much as I kick it's ass back, whereas the 7800 version presents no challenge. I can get up to stage 14 without even breaking a sweat.

I stand by the 7800 version as well. It sounds pretty dern close to the arcade version considering they used the 2600 sound capabilities of the 7800 for this game. You can still get a captured fighter and generally, nothing was really stripped from the 7800 version from the arcade. True the graphics aren't as neat...but the colors are nice! However, the game gets too easy once you max out the speed. Because eventually it will drop the speed back to level 1 and you keep it up.

The main problem with the 7800 version is that when it tries to speed up around stage 10 the 7800 chokes. Everything starts getting choppy.

That too. :(

They really loused up one of my favorite arcade games. If this had been the pack-in 7800 title, they would have killed it off even worse than they did with PPII (which is actually a good game and a very nice translation).

Funny, for me once it gets to a certain level I can't go any further because the bombs drop too fast to get out of the way...

Nobody likes Pole Position? I love this game on the 7800... The joysticks on the PS1/PS2 just don't work with this game...

I quite enjoy the 7800 version. Yes it is easy but its got good sound

and the graphics are good and it keeps all the main game play

elements. I've spent a lot of time on it.

PP2 however I hate and it was a dreadful pack in title. The grahics and

colours are so drab on it.

xeveious should have been the packin for the 7800 :(

I definitely agree with that. While I think Pole Position 2 is a great game on the 7800, Xevious is THE shining star of the 7800 library. I like 7800 Xevious better than the arcade version. It just plays better. The only thing I don't like about it is the drab Andor Genesis Mother Ship graphics.

I like the 7800 version on hard settings only, the sound isnt bad at all for a pokeyless 7800 cart. I gotta say i dont really notice it getting choppy. The NES version is good but theres just something i cant put my finger on as to whats wrong with it,,,,,

Wasnt galaga on the original ridge racer for the ps1?? i think you played it when it loaded??

I thought PPII had competitive graphics for the time (it actually has better graphics than SMS Hang On, also a pack-in), but the gameplay was too limited with only four tracks. The control felt weird too. I don't think it's that bad either.

That said, I probably would have gone with Ballblazer or Xevious too. Or better yet, I would alter history and release something like SCRAPYARD DOG or ALIEN BRIGADE as a packin out of the gate. That would shut up those who thought the 7800 was "behind the Nintendo". LOL.

Of course, Atari never was good with packins. Combat wasn't the best 2600 game, Super Breakout wasn't as popular as Donkey Kong and PPII wasn't a match for Super Mario Brothers. California Games was better, but not a craze-inducer like Tetris and Cybermorph just wasn't up to the challenge. :-)
