Brilliant! I'm testing it in Altirra and I see a difference in the intro of the Atarimax version when the swords collide the sound is more metallic, more realistic compared to the other versions, I hope to test it on real hardware this afternoon or tomorrow from discs and see how it works.

There are 2 soundbanks, bank 1 by Miker and bank2 by Emkay.

They are randomly selected at boot time but you can change it in the option menu.

I played the game "back then" occasionally on the A4000 of a school friend and was among other things fascinated by the animation of the game character - I´m very very very happy to be able to play the game now finally on my ATARI... It has not lost much of its charm over the years... :-)

Many thanks to all contributors for this really very nice realization!

You've done it! Congratulations! ?  ?

And thank you so much, I can imagine there were tears and blood to finish it!

Just one question: What are the cheat codes? How is it possible to choose the starting level? ?

The password will be revealed here... hmm... sometime this year ?

Wow! Congratulations and thanks to all for this superb release!

I have updated the manual and the cover art. I found a much better (high resolution) picture for the front.

Attached:

Cover A4 size (suitable for A5 calendar cases like these: https://www.rivieramultimedia.co.uk/a5-calendar-cases-calendar-boxes-c2x9264838)

Cover disk-wallet size (mostly used in Europe by a.o. US Gold, sadly not available anymore)

Cover box size (made for cartridges, box is based on super cheap (€ 1.99) board games of the Zeeman stores in Europe. 13.5 cm x 19.5 cm)

Manual (original size)

Manual printable (for A4 printers, double sided print)

Disk label

Thanks for the work you all did to make this happen. Cool, that even the bad mood this thread suddently moved to, has not stopped you all finishing the port. This is the proof, that the community can work together to make wonderful things.

Kudos rensoup! Amazing work!

I will chip in some helpful info on the SIO2PC options needed for the loading process..

First of all, the loading of the game is rock solid now(I hope those Altirra logs I sent did help!)

The game (DD file version) loaded on two different machines (Atari 800XL and 65XE both with Freddie chips) while using two different SIO2PC programs and devices.

They both rock Jurgen's memory upgrade (512 KB SRAM memory expansion V4.4 Standard)

I used the AspeQt on  a android phone. Two  options  are crucial here.

(Tool>options)

1 . The Handshake method needs to be set on "SOFT".

2.  The "High speed mode baud rate" needs to be 19200. Any other speed will dramatically slow down the loading process.

In the case of RespeQt(winPC) nothing can really affect the loading process!!!

Again thank you for the amazing work!

I just wanted to thank everyone involved in creating this masterpiece, @rensoup, @TIX, @miker, @VinsCool, @emkay, @makary, @superrune you all did an incredible job and it clearly shows how skilled you all are on our favourite platform. I'd also especially like to thank @rensoup for having the strength of will to ignore all the flung poop and get to the end in one piece!

Who's going to be the first to post the final image from the A8bit version?

I decided to try porting PoP in early 2019.

-This port is based on the BBC Master port by Bitshifters https://bitshifters.github.io/posts/prods/bs-pop-beeb.html (Props to them!)

-Based on the original Apple2 code by Jordan Mechner https://github.com/jmechner/Prince-of-Persia-Apple-II (Props to him!).

The background graphics also comes from the BBC port.

9 levels demo.

-The focus for this release was on the attract mode & cutscenes which are now fully reenabled!

(some assets may possibly not be final)

TIX, our favourite overstretched artist drew all the princess/vizier frames required for the cutscenes!

Miker added a bunch more tunes for the attract mode!

-Added a bunch of cart versions for faster loading and a SD disk version for maximum compatibility with stock hardware.

-Fixed an old bug where the game would freeze if the prince landed on the edge of a floor tile.

-NTSC should be as stable as PAL now.

-new SFX bank by Emkay

-new tunes by Vinscool and Miker

How would someone who owns an AtariXL and has internet access not be aware that the game is available for free download ? ?

(fake bid?)

Easy, many people cannot make a cartridge themselves. On other forums people are already asking for a cartridge to buy including a nice box.

As you distribute the game for free, I distribute "my" artwork for free. I am not going to sell complete sets, but do know that in the A8 community lots of people want to pay for a physical release, even when the game is free.

Indeed. It looks like a 3D printed housing, with a $1 Chinese PCB and an EEPROM plus bank switching logic. $5,= is a pretty good deal imho. POP being preprogrammed is a bonus ;)
