StephenJ
Hello, I just installed an S-Video/Composite Stereo AV kit on one of my Vader 2600s. I got the kit from a seller on eBay....since I wasn't able to get one from my usual source (Electronic Sentimentalities). So far so good. The video and sound is excellent. However, I did notice that one of the chips (see below) would get hot to-the-touch fairly quickly. I installed an oversized heatsink (see below) and ran it for about 30 minutes...so I think it's OK. Just being curious...would someone here please identify this component, and tell me why it would generate heat? Note: There were no markings on the chip. Thanks! root42
The markings may well be under the chip. However there are numerous anonymous Chinese 8 pin chips. Some are microcontrollers, but since it gets hot it might as well be a voltage regulator. edit: your supplier's website tells it all. It's a video driver chip: https://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data%20Sheets/Fairchild%20PDFs/FMS6400.pdf Source: http://electronicsentimentalities.com/BA2600Assembly.html Edited December 7, 2019 by root42
