What is this Component?

Hello,

I just installed an S-Video/Composite Stereo AV kit on one of my Vader 2600s.

I got the kit from a seller on eBay....since I wasn't able to get one from my usual source (Electronic Sentimentalities).

 

So far so good. The video and sound is excellent.

 

However, I did notice that one of the chips (see below) would get hot to-the-touch fairly quickly.

I installed an oversized heatsink (see below) and ran it for about 30 minutes...so I think it's OK.

Just being curious...would someone here please identify this component, and tell me
why it would generate heat? Note: There were no markings on the chip.

The markings may well be under the chip. However there are numerous anonymous Chinese 8 pin chips. Some are microcontrollers, but since it gets hot it might as well be a voltage regulator. 
 

edit: your supplier's website tells it all. It's a video driver chip:
