I decided to expand the competition a bit this round.  For those who don't read the fine print, note that this round will run double length (4 weeks total).   Hopefully this gives all interested participants enough time to get scores up for all the games.

Am I the only one who doesn't find the "saw horse" things in Armored Car to be very useful?  For me, that type of game mechanic is something you use in a split-second panic situation - kind of like how you use a bomb in a shoot 'em up - but it's not very useful in such a situation if the saw horse takes like 7 minutes to deploy after you hit the button.  

 

Never heard of Sorcer Striker before.  Only got 2-3 games in so far but my first impression is that it's a very polished shooter that draws liberally from the Raiden playbook.  Very nice looking game for 1993.  

 

I absolutely love Zoo Keeper.  This first score is just to get something on the board; I will definitely be improving it.  

 

Coincidentally, I was playing a quick game of Zoo Keeper a few weeks ago and a buddy of mine who was standing behind me said "I've been watching you play for a few minutes and I still have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on in this game."  I guess I can see how it would be confusing if you don't know how the game works.  I'd encourage everybody to stick with it at least long enough to understand exactly what is going on.  There's a crazy risk/reward system in this game that is very addictive.  The key to high scores is in jumping over large numbers of animals at once.  You get a piddly 100 points for jumping a single animal, but the bonuses rise very rapidly from there with each additional animal.  To wit, your 6th animal will earn you 30,000 points, and if you can jump 11 at once, you get a whopping 1 million (!!!).

Armored Car 18,850. I find the only way to play this game is to never go slow; if you go slow you're a sitting duck. It's much more fun that way too, even though you have to be really cognizant of your fuel.

Zoo Keeper, a point pressers dream come true.

 

Calculated risks are everywhere.   Keep in mind of how the bonus for jumping animals rises exponentially.  One jump of 6 animals nets 30000!  And 9 is 150000!

 

Upper shelf items on bonus rounds also go up quickly as you progress.  The second round " trophy " gives you 10000.

Rolling Thunder 39,200. When did this game get so hard? I remember playing it constantly as a teenager and it never seemed this ridiculously difficult. I know it wasn't because I pumped in quarters because I never had that many to spare. Maybe my reflexes are not what they used to be or it's simply easier on the real hardware.
